The exception for all rules being Taylor But I am not posting here for the sake of arguing with anyone...my point is just to try and save people money to avoid buying from scalpers for significantly overpriced tickets when they can get them at or closer to face value as the show gets closer
Yep got mine too! Row 12 of the 300s close to the stage for $132 each. Honestly was expecting much worse.
First time I see San Ysidro on a tour date ever (San Ysidro is the first 3 miles after you cross the border from Tijuana to San Diego)
Anybody have a rough sense of what this might be? The image makes me feel like they might do some "album play" shows (one of those short residency stint 'tours' with 2 albums/night or something). But the lyrics are all from one song on No Devolucion which just feels like a random album to reference. Hah. It's a great one, though! Excited to see what it's all about.
One date in Seattle in April with no info. It’s going to be “we are playing all the favorites and songs we never play!” bullshit like always. Then they play 14 songs with 1-2 “deep cuts”. just guessing. Lol
HA I knew that was gonna happen! Still happy with my decision. Its much easier for me to do a Metlife show on a Saturday night rather than a weeknight
They were explicitly teasing that it's the 25 year anniversary of Full Collapse, the 20th anniversary of City By The Light, and the 15th anniversary of No Devolucion. I don't think that's a coincidence.
So I was alerted to something that kind of "opened Pandora's box" in my opinion. This festival sells 3 day pit tickets and INDIVIDUAL ARTIST PIT PASSES. For a fee, you can upgrade your GA/seated ticket to a pit pass ONLY for a certain artist. I uploaded a picture of some of the fees. Here's a link to the ticket page for the rest of the artists. Under Pit Passes: (https://wl.eventim.us/wafform.aspx?_act=eventtickets&_pky=641060&afflky=RockFest). I get the main point of this. If there's 1 or 2 acts on the mainstage you want to see and every other act is on a side stage, you can get a GA ticket and then buy an upgrade to get as close as possible for those acts. I'm just curious to see how that's going to work. Are they going to clear out the pit after EVERY artist, including the people that paid for a 3 day pit pass? It could work if there's a split in the pit for passholders and the 1 artist passes. I like to think I'm well informed on festivals/shows (primarily through this website) but this is the first time I'm seeing something like this. Anyone else getting anxiety about Warped/WWWY/Coachella doing something like this in the future?
Brings me back to the days my local alt-rock radio station used to hand out artist-specific pit passes at their festival show. It was free, first-come/first-serve and was good for blocks of like, 3-4 bands each. But you didn't get to pick the bands. I got there early and wound up getting one for the first crop of main stage bands (local, the Donnas, Seether) and was luckily able to trade it to someone for the block that had A.F.I. and the Used. LOL That worked because they cleared people out every few acts... But I can see that being a mess when you're mixing GA and artist-specific ones. Because even if you clear everybody out, you'll get people who just turn right around and head back in. EDIT: Seeing the post below and the ampitheater set-up works for this kind of thing.
It's only cause this venue's mainstage uses an amphitheatre setup with a small pit, but this fest is near-universally hated by everyone in the region so I doubt it'll translate to other fests lol.
This seems like a nightmare to have to clear pit areas and then let people back in for the next band. No idea how that would work, but in the age of 'everything is a subscription and you own nothing' I can totally see someone thinking it's a brilliant idea to sell add ons for a concert (as if between tickets / food and drink they're not already expensive / profitable enough).
Ok so this is more of a "lack of space" sort of thing for this specific festival. Thinking about it though, what would stop a major festival from doing this? Take WWWY for example. Their layout if you're unfamiliar is a gigantic GA space at the 2 mainstages with a VIP area on the left side of the left main stage and one on the right side of the right main stage. What would stop WWWY from having another section in front of the GA area for these pit tickets? They could've easily have gotten a couple thousand people to pay $200 to see Panic from that area last year. As long as they can figure out the logistics and "safely" clear the area while the band on the opposite side is playing, I can definitely see this happening in 5 years or less.
Rock USA in Wisconsin did this (before the promoters bitched out and declared bankruptcy the moment Covid hit so they wouldn’t have to give out refunds)
Whether we like it or not, there is definitely a premium on the upfront pit more so than ever now so I can imagine festivals now charging more for this (and likely the acts getting a cut). Also a good way to gauge demand based on who sells the most pit tickets which I assume will allow agents to leverage that data to get their acts bigger offers in the future.
