I would also say that the support has to be pretty good too. Like if you like Jimmy, they play a lot of these songs live so I know a big anniversary tour will do more but I’d imagine like the get up kids or something akin would have to be on it to get the bump and a sell out
Honestly, if JEW took out the lineup of their UK shows (minus Rise Against) on a U.S. tour, I think it’d do pretty solid
TBH, I think the discussion about whether or not a band can "sell out" a venue is tired and not at all a good indicator of whether or not an artist should be playing in that particular venue. Especially with the resale market being what it is. I think we all might do better shifting away from that line of discourse when discussing artists that, throughout their entire career, haven't really been the type to "sell out" shows instantly. It reads like people think artists are a failure for not being able to sell out 100% of a venue and I'm pretty certain that's not at all what people are hoping for or getting at... Anyway, the right combo to me would be a strong support act of their era (late 90s/early 2000s) coupled with a buzzy, younger artist from the hardcore-adjacent space. Lots of options across the board so we'll see what happens! They mostly do 1-3k spaces anyway so... Not much of a stretch given the album play scenario.
we do this every year. This genre doesn’t sell tickets in massive quantities months out. 15-10 days out are where a majority of tickets are sold. EDIT: NFG sold 4k tickets by themselves in the area in ‘24, I’m sure this will get to 4.5-5k tickets sold when it’s said and done
Also: That NYC show is GA. The show could be 75% sold out already and you won't be able to tell by looking at Ticketmaster. Really, I just wish people would stop applying "young pop artist with a viral TikTok trend" expectations to bands that had their commercial peak 20+ years ago and have consistently played in decent-sized venues for much of that time (with plenty of ebbs and flows along the way). LOL
Superheaven, Pool Kids, Smoking Popes, Tigers Jaw, Glitterer, Balance & Composure, Alkaline Trio, or Finch would be fun openers for Jimmy Eat World.
JEW have a show in April with the band Glixen. Would love for Superheaven or B&C as direct support along with Glixen opening.
Obviously not going to happen, but give me the Jimmy Eat World headliner with Sugarcult and Relient K in support playing their 25th anniversaries of Start Static and Anatomy of the Tongue in Cheek, respectively.
Looks like Govball will be announcing its lineup this week. Based on the clues they’ve dropped it seems like these acts will be on it: Lorde, Clipse, Hot Mulligan, Amyl & the Sniffers, Geese, Wet Leg, Blood Orange, Jennie and Stray Kids
At first I thought this was listed in order of act size in the poster and thought to myself: who is 'Jennie and Stray Kids' But it will definetly do numbers with those 2 kpop acts
Yeah I think the two big k pop acts plus the seemingly shift back to rock music will sell well. With Amyl, Hot Mulligan and Wet Leg on there it makes me think they’ll get Turnstile and The Strokes to be counter programming to the pop headliners
Plus Geese was a hint for Sunday so definitely seems like they are actually putting some balance back into their lineup
I'd imagine at least Jimmy Eat World's announcement is coming this week with their e-mail sign up request on socials last week
Plenty of good stuff announced for the next 3 months. Haven't got all the tickets that I want just yet, but plenty to chose from.
legit the same 6 "rock:" bands seem to be playing every live nation fest this year, way to make those events unique.
Yeah...unfortunately a side effect of LiveNation taking over...when Governors Ball was just Founders Entertainment you really got that indie/NYC vibe....but I would think they would not have done the merger unless they had to in order to keep the fest going so I get it
