Social Distortion must have like a KROQ bat phone and just called whenever a slot is needed on an AAC lineup
Is this the first year that Almost Acoustic Christmas is only one night? Or did they abandon the 2 day format a while ago? Its a fun bill. Kinda lacks the wow factor they used to have but I would enjoy this if I were local.
The lineup being in alphabetical order and Papa Roach still making it to the top row is quite a feat.
They’re an easy shoo-in. Local, presumably easy to book, and will at least make the old school fans happy
It's been one night post-pandemic. KROQ, and radio in general, I think really lost their pull in terms of what leverage they have so they probably can't attract top talent unless they have the budget.
They stopped doing two nights once they returned after the pandemic. I think 2022 was when they came back? But they haven’t done two nights since 2019
Also, I feel like 5 of these bands would demand they play last and it's gonna be super awkward when Stephen Jenkins finds out he's playing 4th on a nine band lineup.
Not that Stephan Jenkins is that smart, but if it were me and I had the pull, I'd want to play second to last. Always the best spot especially, I have to imagine, in LA where people are bouncing early to beat traffic.
The odd thing (to me at least) about the lineup is that it doesn’t feel like there’s a definite headliner. They usually have a designated headliner/co-headliner for their AACs. But this whole lineup is just undercard. Feels like they had a headliner booked that dropped at the last minute, or something
There's been a few times over the years where the headliner felt a little "off." I remember AFI closed out on night a few years back. But FWIW, I think Evanescence could fit as a headliner on something like this. I've been feeling for a bit like they're trying to come back as a bigger headliner. I just kinda think the days of any radio station booking a major headliner for their event are far behind us given the lack of weight alt-rock radio has nowadays, budget cuts, etc. KROQ has been able to pull it off longer than most because so many artists are in the region anyway and the station's "legacy" status.
Evanescence at the top of that bill when they haven't released anything in years while Yellowcard has a new album and are on the top of rock radio charts seems weird, but this definitely feels like they tried booking Blink or something as a headliner and couldn't.
From what I'm seeing, each band is posting their own version of the poster with themselves at the top
They r playing in my hometown.. just an welcome change going to a gig which is 10 mins walk from my house!
