Many such cases, TBH. Haha. But yeah... I think Oasis is a very unique case. Their popularity clearly grew across multiple demographics while they were away. And it probably helped that they had parents who were passive fans now who had teenagers that are big fans. There's something about discovering a band after their prime and assuming you'll never get to see them that can kick those reunions up a notch and make them feel really fucking special (for me it was Jawbreaker, Lifetime, and Refused; when those bands announced reunions it was like the ground shook beneath me).
I still remember the day Jawbreaker first got announced for Riot Fest. I think I scared my mom over how loud I yelled “NO FUCKING WAY”
Same! I was at work and I just sat and stared at my computer for like... Five minutes. Then I went through the painful exercise of trying to figure out how I was going to go about making Riot happen that year when I'd already booked two separate trips. The reaction my partner at the time had was the first indication that we were definitely not a good fit and I'd been lying to myself about it all. It led to a wave of arguments over the next ~7 months before we decided to end things. Jawbreaker saved my ass.
This hit with Acceptance last night. I bought tickets months ago, but the last few weeks made me weary to make the trip and I almost bailed. I had to keep reminding myself that Phantoms is an all-timer for me, and that there’s no guarantee they will play more shows. The show last night hit all the right notes, and I’m still taking stock of checking off another band I’ve spent so much time with but had never thought I would have the chance to see. Weirdly enough, they announced they are playing Warped LB + “some more shows” next year, but may never come back to Philly again, so who knows what that means
That's a really solid top 3. I hope they're confirmed for the Texas date too, that one will probably be a much more affordable trip that I can swing.
There is nothing other than capitalism stopping me from a full blown western usa road trip. Would love to hit up vegas and sick new world.
The one year I went to SNW (2024) it was so poorly managed just sound bleeding over wise, overcrowding, and spots for shade/resting that I don't think I can ever be enticed to go again unless they were to make it more than a 1 day event. Don't get me wrong, the lineup will probably be stellar but it's just too much shit to cram into one day.
I went that year and I had a much different experience it seems. I thought everything was done really well
Idk it just felt like too much all in one day and people just overcrowding at mainstage/camping out all day that near the end of the night it didn't even feel enjoyable anymore. Especially since they didn't even have just a normal video feed of the bands on screen I felt like I was just watching dots way way way out in the distance. I only made it like 4 songs into System before I left because I'd been on my feet all day with no spots to rest in the shade, felt dehydrated, etc. I will say that the hardcore stage/tent was a fucking vibe though and would love for more fests to do something like that to create an intimate experience even at a festival environment. Maybe it's just because I did the overall GA for SNW though. I went to Aftershock this year and it felt managed much better. Likely because it was across 4 days and I had VIP.
The DWP fests are organized very well. It's also 4 days versus 1 day of a crammed lineup for the same price. I'm almost 30 so being able to pace myself through 4 days at a festival with lots of shade and places to sit versus running around a crammed oversold festival ground with no shade is much appreciated
That's definitely where I'm at with it. I turn 30 next year, and I need somewhere to rest my old man bones and just sit in the grass under a tree with some shade to eat overpriced nachos while watching some butt rock act like Saliva before getting up to go watch Dying Wish. Versus sitting on the hot concrete to eat a slice of pizza or eating while walking over to the next stage.
I know I shouldn’t get disappointed cause why would seahaven hit Fresno on a anniversary tour when you can do the big three and call it but ugh that’s one of my fave albums but I don’t like traveling
