Multiple people in the sub for their Jones Beach show had to continuously warn people that you CAN'T camp out for Jones Beach shows unless you want to literally park your car on the highway and sleep there.

I was going to say, until recently, the only time I can ever remember seeing this was when Green Day played the same HOB here in a major underplay. It makes sense for underplays and the like but the "younger artist at a standard HOB" show thing has happened twice recently and it got me thinking if it was becoming more of a trend.

And I'm getting the sense that it is.

Yeah, this jives with what I was theorizing. And I mean... I definitely remember getting to shows early and wanting to be the first in line when I was in high school or whatever. But that was--like you said--an hour or so before doors. Not all day. That just seems like a silly waste of time and I've never understood the value in that.

For me, unless you want to get front row but if you want to be close. Just arrive at the same time as doors open. The line is moving and you're not standing on some shitty sidewalk for hours on end.

I think also younger people generally have more desire for barricade/to be close, while I have a panic attack once it starts filling up and always wind up near the back anyway

I remember back in March 2015 I walked by Webster Hall in the middle of the afternoon and there were people sleeping on the sidewalks in line to see Muse the NEXT night.

As obsessed as I am with live music, I have never gone to a show where I'd be willing to sit outside in the cold for 36 hours just to ensure a front spot. The venue only holds 1000 people, even if you were in the last row you'd still have an amazing view lol

I once camped out in front of the Epicentre (RIP) in San Diego for Fall Out Boy. But this was 2008 and 500cap venue so I’d like to think it was justified (it was)

Counterpoint - I hardly think I'm rude, and I certainly don't shove my way through, but I've never not been closeish with a little effort, even when arriving late. I'm never front row, and maybe someone who lined up for hours earlier and is 15 feet ahead of me would say their close is way better, but it's all perspective when it's a mid size show.

Whatever - people can trade out their time as they see fit and if being able to lean on the stage is worth the time in line then live your life. But these 'no camping signs' because people keep pushing what early means to a new extreme is crazy.

Most I did for that was GA for OutKast in 2014. I waited for like 6 hours before the show because I wanted to be as close as could be. I was not close at all lol

Yeah when I was younger, I made it a goal to be as close as I could to the stage. Now I prefer to stand in the back and lean against a wall lol

Not sure how hot of a take this is but I mostly don’t care about people shuffling through GA crowds. If people are shoving to get through, that’s one thing, but if people are politely enough moving through, I’m definitely more annoyed by the people who groan loudly about it versus the people trying to weave through.
