I had no idea that Linkin Park tour starts later this month. Just took a peak and this is how many seats are still available for a show that's in 18 days:

If they don't cancel then I can picture them closing off the upper deck and upgrading all those ticket buyers with lower seats.

Perfect storm of issues for this Linkin Park reunion being a dud. 1) Conflicting thoughts on them continuing under the name without Chester 2) Addition of female singer with some questionable baggage 3) Mediocre album released 4) WAY too ambitious hype/promo plays (i.e booking Barclays Center and announcing the show the week before) when they should have done underplays.

looks like they already closed the sides of the upper deck already too.

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

I’m genuinely curious what happens to Linkin Park next after this album cycle. Do they still keep on going?

I think they continue. Domestically they either start headlining, drop down from arenas or they start opening on stadium tours. New album every few years until they get a hit.

I see them basically on the same track they were on before Chester died. I don’t think they were drawing that much better on the One More Light tour. The tour before they had 30stm and AFI to open during peak Jared Leto fame.

If they're smart they accept they won't be able to do the same size venues they were doing before and go down in venue sizes. And/or taking direct support slots on bigger bands tours (in the same vein that Alice In Chains and Stone Temple Pilots have done after coming back with new singers).

    Things have changed.

Get better support for one. I have literally never met a person, online or off, who's ever been excited about grandson.

Theyre probably accustomed to making a certain rate that they aren't ready to give up.

I mean eventually venues are going to catch on that they aren't producing the same amount of money for them that they once were and they won't have much of a choice.

Downsize in venues from arenas to sheds, and tour heavily around festival circuits (April-May, September-October). Hopefully they tour with better support in the future or even go the Deftones route of bringing out tons of up-and-coming bands to the masses. Can’t understate how impactful Deftones have been about helping this newer wave of popular bands with some now headlining festivals and filling the voids left by legacy acts.

I’ve also thought about anniversary runs for Hybrid Theory or Meteora, but those won’t be for a few years.

    1. Bring back Projekt Revolution. Not at the scale it was when they used to do it with multiple stages and shit, but like a nice four act mixed bill. Use it to highlight younger/newer artists. Make that the tour that explicitly focuses on the crossover appeal of the band.

    2. Get better supports just like in general. I feel like they just blindly assumed that the US wanted more pop/hip hop leaning openers which is why we get Jean Dawson and Grandson while Europe gets Spiritbox and Architects. It can’t just be “oh Mike and Colin worked with this guy or wanna work with this guy.” Get Chevelle, get Turnstile, get Bad Omens again. When LP went away, their fans did not go to Grandson, they went to Sleep Token, Bring Me The Horizon, The Plot In You. That’s the kind of stuff fans wanna see.

    3. Emily needs to come out about her association with scientology and exactly how far it goes. Every so often during the album rollout I would check the LP subreddit and LP fans, parasocial little freaks (complimentary) that they are, dug a little too deep into her personal life and saw that she’s closely associated with the photographer that took the photos for Leah Remini’s anti-scientology book and his family and has been for years. And I mean like close. I mean like the guy’s wife calls Emily her daughter close. This cast a lot of doubt on how tight she was with the church for me, and while I personally believe that she should only make such a statement about her relationship to the church when she’s ready, I do think that some sort of explanation would go a long way with fans.

    4. Just make better music. From Zero isn’t bad, but it’s not good either. It’s fine. There’s two songs on there that are complete skips but most of it is perfectly fine. That said, there’s stuff that needs to change in the songwriting process. Brad needs to write some riffs again. Like Hybrid Theory/Meteora riffs not just strumming some chords. The songs need to be longer so they have more time to breathe. Colin needs to lean into more technicality in the drums. Rock music has changed a lot since LP has been gone. They may never be trendsetters again, but their take on modern trends has value. For instance, when I first saw a live video of Heavy Is The Crown I thought they were pitch shifting the guitars down and doing a djenty little breakdown because the sound of the venue was blowing out the camera microphone. The actual breakdown in the song is just them strumming, it’s boring! I like the song but c’mon they whiffed it on that part.

Limp Bizkit have been really good at doing this too. In 2022 they brought out Scowl and this year they brought out Ecca Vandal.
Love that they could’ve cashed in on a Family Values nostalgia grab but instead chose to platform up and coming female acts

Korn bring Spiritbox with them on their tour with Gojira. Slipknot toured with Knocked Loose.

It really feels like Linkin Park are out of touch when choosing support acts

To be fair it's not a rumor if the band teases it. Wonder if Crafter's back.
