Feeling the same way but I'm not sure if it's just the amount of summer tours I'm interested in lower this year

Like my amphitheater usually has tons of shows booked and there’s only 4 in June and 3 in July?

You’re not wrong. Definitely seems like a slow year.

Tours are getting more selective, bigger metros are getting more and more shows. Some of the B and C markets are just not seeing the same amount of shows as past years.

Feels like it to me as well. Local shed here has a decent amount of summer shows, but little that appeals to me. Very few metal/pop punk/hardcore shows I’m willing to travel for so far though.

There’s a couple of bands I follow that I’m shocked don’t have anything going on during like June/July announced.

for chicago between tinley park and northerly island there's over 40 shows combined. everyone is playing chicago this year. the amount of shit we have between july and september is insane. ive never seen it like this here

labor day weekend is insane by it self.

Personally I’ve got a pretty good lineup of summer shows but I do agree the announcements have been a little lighter…At the same time the last two years of post Covid touring I think had every artist getting out there to make up for lost income so perhaps it’s a balancing act and response to that too

I mean I’m ok with the less crammed slate. Money is tight and I’m ok if I’m not tempted by all these shows.

Definitely notice, in general, less stuff at sheds I'm interested in but it could just be due to them now catering to more suburban/nostalgia tastes

It’s noticeably lighter in Chicago, or I’m just getting older and have already seen every band.

Are acts getting denied just because they are from certain places or is it due to paperwork not being updated?

EDIT: Nevermind, probably due to our crybaby president after reading the article (similar to the French scientist who had an issue). Truly awful times.

It’s def not lighter. Between Tinley and northerly island there’s 41 shows booked between the 2. Solider field is booked for 5 straight days Labor Day weekend. There’s also 2 edm festivals that same weekend. There’s also Lolla/riot fest. Also the untied center has around 20 shows from June to September. Plus all the other venues that has shows. It’s a packed schedule this year

Also, not tour related persay, but the recently released book on the oral history of Lollapalooza is a fascinating read if you're interested in touring logistics/routing as well as various behind the scenes talk from the era of its traveling days. Fun fact is that Metallica apparently refused to play sheds so they had to find fields in '96 and also play in a lot of out of the way area since Metallica had their own tour booked. Also, was interesting to learn that both Stone Temple Pilots and Live wanted to play the fest in 1995 but Perry Farrell vetoe'd it, which then turned it into one of the worst years for ticket sales.

The documentary is pretty great too. You likely get a whole lot more detail in the book on some of this stuff but they spend a lot of time on the first two years but definitely delve into artists he said no to, tried saying no to, the Metallica thing, etc.
