I don’t mind paying a higher price for a show as long as the production value warrants it. If I start paying $100 for a show and all the bands have are giant banners and house lights, then I’m gonna start complaining.

I don't mean to be condescending, it was more a tossed off remark. I think it's due (anecdotally) to my observations that for some reason people feel ENTITLED to see live music for a low cost yet happily accept high prices for other items that have gone up in price without question. If you go out with your partner to a restaurant, you would likely expect to pay $150-200 for a meal depending on where you live/type of restaurant. If you want to go on a trip, it's likely $1-2k depending on the stay. Yet, for some reason, people expect concerts to stay within the $30-40 range not taking into account the costs that go into these events and the various hands that go into them.

I'm completely aware that I may have a more privileged financial position in life at this point but, again, it's just absurd to me that people expect the cost of a show at your local House Of Blues to be the same cost as a burger/fries and a few beers at your local pub. Just doesn't compute.

You're right in that I'm not quite sure how those breakdowns are then divided up but, from what I've heard, majority goes to the act, then building owner/staff and then promoter. I've heard that, for example, it's $500,000 just to basically turn on the lights at MSG so if you then add in staffing, production costs, etc. I can easily see the cost of an event being $1.5-2MM there.

if they could actually make money on releasing music we might not see concert prices as high

So long as they keep the parking free I won't complain too much for their slightly higher prices. Especially since shows there rarely sell out and its easy to get below face tickets.

I do get a little jealous though that we're the only ampitheater that doesnt have a lawn.

Ironically, the production costs are often what drives up the ticket prices.

Totally agree. I kinda felt this way for that MCR reunion tour in 2022. I spent so much money for those tickets and it didnt feel like they had any sort of stage production at all. Meanwhile I've spent half that for Nine Inch Nails this summer and they'll most likely have a production value that blows my mind.

On a lighter note, I would totally pay a premium for NO openers, headliner sets 8-10 these days.

That's only $40-$50USD with how low our dollar is at the moment.

It looks like a solid lineup besides the neo nazi band and some of the other problematic bands

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

Thursday and Friday lineups are super solid and well-curated. I’d go to those if this were closer to me

This is once against fueling my fantasy of a Deftones/APC/Failure tour

I get pissed every time I see a Danny Wimmer festival. Country USA and Rock USA in Wisconsin went bankrupt during covid, DW bought the festival grounds, proceeded to do nothing with it for years, and then sold it off. I would never travel for one, but if it was 30 minutes from me? Gets me angry every time

my brother and I are having a real tough time deciding between Thursday or Friday. We always go one day each year.

Thursday has more bands we’d want to see but we’ve seen before. Friday has less bands we’d want to see but have been wanting to see for a while (turnstile, basement, lamb of god). Decisions, decisions, decisions
