the original Vanna members didn’t actually own the name anymore. Vanna by the end was actually a different band than the original. So the band that started essentially lost their own name. Hence why they had to be Inspirit

Deftones tour started last night, mars Volta gets an hour and appear to be playing their brand new album from start to finish that doesn’t come out til two days after the tour ends. Bold strategy cotton

Good incentive for me to show up late for the MSG date then!

That doesn’t sound great. I’m far less looking forward to seeing them now. And I was GASSED to get to see them again, was rocking FTM last week thinking “hell yeah! This is gonna be sweet.” As I have only seen them once and they cut the set short after 3-4 songs because he was “sick” and he had some half-ass excuse. And they didn’t come back / reschedule / refund. Lol.

i love mars Volta, however, this is a huge opportunity for them and they should absolutely be playing their best stuff in an arena full of people every night. Also, seeing the crowd be into it can be infectious. Now even their fans will be seeing songs they don’t know, don’t know the lyrics to. It’s baffling when bands make decisions like this on their biggest stage.

Oh wow I assumed since Nick was in till about then end maybe he had some sort of ownership. So pretty much a skylit drive name issue glad to see they’re getting it back

I tihnk that's always been The Mars Volta MO. They played the KROQ Weenie Roast in 2005 and apparently got moved from the main stage to the side stage due the addition of Motley Crue. They responded by playing a 45 minute jam and none of their known songs.

  10. it's The Mars Volta... they will only do what they want to do. their manager(s) probably have the same mindset that you do though haha.

Sidenote but, man, that Omar Rodriguez Lopez is such an insanely great guitar player. It'd be awesome if maybe he gave us some solo material at some point...

Going to be the oddball here. As someone who knows very little about the mars volta I'm pretty psyched!

Well damn, that's disappointing to hear about The Mars Volta. Did the new songs sound good at least?
May just catch the tale end next month, but urgh I still wanna see Fleshwater.

Reddit says new songs are good. I say Warped Tour is a waste of 2 days imo

Lucero did that when they were direct support for Frank Turner years ago. Just played their new album from front to back and it wasn't out until later that summer.

Urghhhh I spaced out and forgot about the Rilo Kiley presale at 10am. Nothing left for NYC today. Anyone hear about the code for tomorrow's presale?

If Rilo Kiley is gone that quickly, imagine a second night will be added.

The tour schedule doesnt look like there's room for a 2nd night in NYC. Unless they wanna go 5 nights without an off day.
Also funny that the 5.5k tickets for the NYC show are going to fly, but looking at the presale for the 2k CT show and basically every section is available.

There's a 2 day gap between 9/4 and 9/7 which is Philly to Boston so maybe that's another night, possibly at another venue?

Also FYI GA Bleachers are still available for Summerstage which is a pricier tier but still gives you access to the floor .

ive been to the hotel to stay, but not for a show. their booking person pretty much bats 100% with the acts they bring in - frank turner, clutch, amigo the devil, devotchka, here come the mummies, murder by death, bouncing souls, uncle acid & the deadbeats...
