It's definitely an attempt at trying to re-enter the band into touring. Slowly rearing its head from the sewers. The secret shows and the solo show are an attempt at "let's see how much backlash we get and then go from there". With 1/3rd of fans not knowing about the drama of this band, and the 1/3rd that don't care (reddit), they will definitely try and make a comeback. Boo.

Is there any likelihood that Panic! would tour beyond the WWWY Fest dates? I really want to see AFYCSO in full, but cannot justify another trip to Vegas for it.

 

Someone should buy a last minute (cheap) resale ticket to that JL show just to yell "CERTIFIED PEDOFILE" during a quiet song. I'd help fund the ticket purchase.

 

Snagged a CTR3 seat for Summer of Loud. $125 which is honestly way less than I was expecting for a spot that close/that many bands.

 

Looking forward to this drop. Hopefully we’ll have a good idea of bands that are touring heavy in the fall while hitting the festival circuit.

People need to leave this echo chamber of a forum and take a look at what’s going on…no one’s going to be protesting outside of these shows and no one is going to be buying a ticket to harass him while he’s performing…this show and any other show he plays is going to instantly sell out making venues and promoters money which means tons more to them than an anonymous social media comment….now where are those offspring dates?

 

No fucking shit, sherlock. Brand New could announce a comeback tour tomorrow playing 5000+ caps and would sell out the entire thing. Their fans are going to show up because time and time again, people have shown that if you're a piece of shit who makes "good music", all can be forgiven because a majority of the population can separate art from the artist. I like to think that a majority of this forum isn't ignorant to that fact.

That doesn't mean that people who genuinely give a shit about the scene shouldn't react like this when a promoter and a venue give a platform to a verified predator. I'm not gonna show up and protest because I live 7 hours away, but I will pay attention to any promoter, venue, and any bands that associated with this as a consumer because I can't separate art from the artist in this case - especially when a majority of their lyrics are about personal topics and gives you an insight into Jesse Lacey, the man, was. If he wants to go fuck off and make a living on a crab trawler or a Canadian oil rig, go for it. But that doesn't mean he deserves support as an artist.

Does it kinda tick me off that they can just roll out the red carpet for a Brand New reunion now in this climate? A bit, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to be paying attention to the scene around it.

 

I wonder what percentage of Brand New's fanbase even knows about what happened vs thinking they just broke up.

We are constantly reminded of it on here/reddit/the internet. But even people at Blink shows were like "which one's Tom?" when they were playing with Matt Skiba.

TBH, situations like this are ones where we as a community can actually affect change. Because at the moment it's on a small scale. I doubt that particular show will get cancelled or that a protest outside the venue will help.

But it's entirely plausible for us to reach out to other bands playing that same venue and put pressure on them: "Yo, you realize this venue supports pedophiles, right?"

It needs to be the right band with the right ethics but we've all seen it happen where bands drop off tours or switch venues for one reason or another. Talking about it on this forum won't necessarily change anything... But bringing the conversation to Instagram and other public forums @ing bands playing that venue directly actually might help.

It's fully worth discussing now much more than it will be if/when the band announces anything more significant.

EDIT: That said, there's also the Accountability thread that might be a more relevant spot for these discussions but... Whatever. Fuck Jesse Lacey.
