Yeah the same goes with three days grace and avril lavigne. I'm like growing up they were never put in the emo scene. I don't really know when people started seeing them that way.

They were on similar radio stations as those emo bands back in the early 00s, played similar radio fests and I imagine a lot of the mp3 collections of college kids/teens at the time who were into current rock music would include the likes of BOTH Good Charlotte, Hoobastank, Simple Plan, Taking Back Sunday, etc. It's not that odd.

  4. These days "emo scene" just means "early 2000s nostalgia"

I mean, as one of those college kids/teens who was simultaneously into punk/hardcore/emo of the era but still kept one foot in the radio-rock world? I can't ever recall hearing anybody refer to Hoobastank as an "emo" band or even tangentially associate them with the "scene." They were always just sorta that "we have Incubus at home" band. LOL

They co-existed on radio playlists and in MySpace profiles but trying to plug them into the Warped Tour scene just feels very forced to me. It would be like calling A.F.I. or Coheed nu-metal bands. People definitely liked both of those things but you really wouldn't ever try claiming they were part of that "scene" at the time.

(Although, I guess Sick New World kinda tried that. Didn't work so well. LOL)

Okay, this line-up fucks. Any of the bands toward the bottom of the poster worth checking out/looking into?

I think this is probably true. Multiple people inside the company claim to have no idea exactly how he does it.

I also think The Reason being ostensibly an “emo phase” song probably plays a big role in Hoobastank’s emo rebrand

I wish I could just snap my fingers and make the word emo and all the trendy bullshit that comes with it just disappear forever. I hate the fact that the music that I enjoy listening is so strongly associated with a cringey stereotype.

    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

Would definitely recommend The Casper Fight Scene, Mudwhale, Car Crash Rhetoric, No Problemo, Tequila Mockingbird, Former Critics, and Mt. Oriander!

Their first album under the name Hoobustank was kinda fun. A mix of ska and some jazz too. It's called "They Sure Don't Make Basketball Shorts Like They Used To".

I get it, though it also felt segmented living back then. Fuse back in the day would go between Underoath and Breaking Benjamin and Fall Out Boy and Puddle of Mud and Blink and CIWWAF all on the same shows.

    idk man

If you watch the 3DG music videos without listening to the music it's easy to characterize them as emo

After Papa Roach released Scars all those radio rock bands started getting thrown in with "emo"

There were some bands that essentially pivoted like (ugh) Lostprophets from nu metal to emo.

I don't think Hoobastank playing the Warped Tour would have been that weird. They toured with bands playing Warped and what not. Plus other bands like American Hi-Fi, Andrew WK, Lit, etc all played Warped at one point.
