and we do know that they don’t necessarily want a tour that can track 5k in each city in a 4500k venue. They will put it in a 20k amp hope that those 5k pay the full price and through concert week, sales, buy one get one’s, radio comps that they turn that 5k into 10k

But that really only benefits Live Nation and not the artist, no? I dont know much about how it all works but this Jon Bellion interview was pretty eye opening. Live Nation books these artists in too large of venues, which the artist then has to pay the advances back on, but then Live Nation is the only ones who profit on concession sales. So yeah an artist that typically sells out 4k venues ends up performing to crowds of 8k people, but half those people got in for dirt cheap while the artist still has to pay back the larger than usual advance because the larger venue cost more.

Or maybe my understanding is completely wrong lol. But this is an interesting interview.

Ah interesting, didn't know the artist had to pay back the advance. I figure a lot of these shed tours are package payments for the whole tour but I could be wrong.

And to be fair I guess the more people who are in the building the more artist merch they can sell, which the artist obviously gets a cut from. And some artists may be savvy enough to get a percentage of concession sales. But I would love to hear from any of these artists like Papa Roach or Mudvayne or Goo Goo Dolls what their preference is....do they prefer playing to packed mid sized theaters, or do they like to play to half full amphitheaters just to say they've headlined larger venues?

    Things have changed.

yes, BUT ... you can't say Linkin Park expected sales to be like this.

I was exaggerating but for shows that don't cater to a drinking crowd, I think the profit margin for Live Nation is lower.

Whenever there's an undersell on an amphitheater tour like that RA/PR bill I usually assume everybody knows roughly what to expect going into it and that there were simply no 'bigger' acts looking to book that date at that point. And while a sellout would be preferred... 7k people buying concessions is better than zero people because you didn't book talent that night.

And for the artists, I'd imagine that 7k people is better than a sold out 3-5k theater that either could do respectably in on their own. And, depending on where the ampitheater is, it also keeps things open for a fall/winter headliner later the same year for that same state.

It seems like it's hit or miss depending on the date for Linkin Park. Like Baltimore is the closest show to me, that one is coming up sooner (May instead of August), but it looks like it's about 75% sold, with the cheapest remaining tickets being $200.

The Sleeping will be opening at least one Bayside date. I saw an event post on Facebook for New Jersey, I think.

Sincere Engineer officially confirmed as an opener for at least the New York date. I had a bad experience with Punchline that completely turned me off of them.

Got a haul of Lucy tickets for DC before the second night got announced. Catching the Free Throw/Ben Quad show on the second night so it felt like the right move. Should be able to get some friends/friends of friends to join before maybe selling if I need to.

When they made light and brushed off the fact I was disappointed they were doing shows with Piebald, after reading some gross stuff about them. I gave them a link to what I was talking about and they deleted their comments and just pretended like they didn't see it.
