I don't even think it's that extreme. Just take your sub-headliners and bump 'em up to the top-line and use some of the extra $$$ to make a stronger, more diverse undercard rather than relying solely on the headliners. But know that your ticket sales will drop concurrently.

I just don't see any of these bigger festivals returning to any sort of "counter-culture" vibes anytime soon. Nor do I think they want/need to. That's not what people love about them.

My point is mostly just that people talk about it like the festivals need to just vanish instead of maybe just taking a step down one or two notches in terms of what they need to draw in order to break even. Again, this is a dip down from Reading/Leeds but Sick New World could have 100% still happened this year if they didn't try to rely solely on mega-headliners that required a near-instant sellout or whatever to be profitable.

I forget if I said this or not but... Lit is another band I'd put in the same category as Filter (although their draw is worse). They have a single mega-hit but can't really draw at all despite staying consistently active.

Unfortunately with the big festivals being beholden to shareholders thanks to Live Nation and AEG, they will never return to counter culture or take a step back on being sustainable. They will be run into the ground before ever circling back.

The secondary issue is that they are reaching the ceiling on pricing that people will tolerate. That will limit the acts they can book even at sub-headline level as everyone is trying to squeeze as much blood from this stone as they can when there's almost no other way to make money as a touring musician other than playing shows and selling merch.

it’s truly shocking when you goto Glastonbury for the first time and you’re like wait…it’s possible to a do the biggest festival in the world, with an A+ lineup, not having a single corporate sponsor, and charging a fair price (with no VIP options).

it just shows how sad our festival scene has become.

    idk man

There's still some diamonds in the rough, Fauxchella being a prime example. Great number of DIY bands that sold out weekend passes within a few days of sale. Sure it isn't as big as any of the other big festivals, but it goes to show the power of community which made these festivals so exciting to begin with. I unfortunately have never been, but it seems like the worst part about it that it happens in Ohio.

Weak lineup. Where’s Thaddeus Finks? Mookie Kramer and the Eight Balls? You know… he played the sax with the kink in it. Paul Bufano? Roy Donk? Pretty meat and potatoes lineup if you ask me.

I feel charging $145 for this is too much. Didnt Warped Tour had similar prices in tier 1?

Warped was $149. The pricing on this is insane

When people are talking about "festival culture," though I always assume they're referring to fests that are 20k+. When you dip lower than that there is so much cool shit happening in the hardcore/emo/punk communities.

Cool lineup, but can’t say that I’m interested in attending. Had a feeling Rilo would be on the lineup tho
