So, Metallica came here over the summer. Tickets went on sale over a year ago. A couple of months before the shows, tons of tickets were available for cheaper than the day they went on sale.

Chappell canceling All Things Go and Foo Fighters cancelling at Soundside. Not a good weekend for NYC festivals.

It’s a perfect day for letting go... Supporter

I think the CR situation is a window into what it’s actually like to be a pop star. Like she’s not trying to hide anything and that’s refreshing but also incredibly sad to think all the other people who haven’t felt like they have a choice to prioritize their health over stardom. Shout out to her

I think the general feeling with ATG (both in MD and NYC) is that she was the main draw of the show. I doubt they'll offer refunds but if they do, I'm genuinely considering taking one as it's going to rain all weekend and one of the main selling points of this fest was the chance to see her with several other strong acts before she blows up and is doing multi nights at arenas.

No shot at her personally but I imagine this was a big fuck-up by her team as it's really odd to cancel the DAY before a festival for something like this as opposed to the Foo Fighters cancellation which I imagine was in the works for weeks and they just now landed replacements. Nonetheless, hope she gets the help she needs and ultimately comes out ahead.

I was also supposed to see her this weekend. I truly think Chappell would've done All Things Go if a concerning amount of loud, uninformed internet users weren't going after her thinking she's a Republican. All of that was over the last few days so it feels like that's the straw that broke the camel's back. Was really looking forward to it, totally understand why she's not, and I hope she takes this opportunity to stay out of the public eye for a little bit. I have a lot of respect for her and what she does, and none of that has diminished because of this decision.

The whole thing is stupid and we need to stop forcing artists to state that they align with our beliefs. There's one thing to say 'okay, i won't support that band because the lead singer is a loud Trumper' but some people just want to stay silent and that's okay with me. Journalists should just shut up and stop asking pop stars about politics. Let them decide if that's something they want to be public with it. It's just unnecessary pot stirring, and people trying to feel better about themselves because their favorite artists believes what they do.

I don't think it was just this thing that put her over the edge. I obviously don't know her personally but seems like she's really been struggling and someone on her team should have had the foresight to say, maybe 2-3 weeks ago, "hey, maybe it's not the best time to be doing the these shows. Let's put out a statement, see if we can work with the festival to find a realistic replacement", etc. Cancelling a big headlining date a DAY like this just seems like there's a lot more unraveling going on behind the scenes than people like realize.

SIDENOTE for anyone who DOES want to go to All Things Go this weekend, resale prices have dropped well below face since this announcement.

I mean...they're in the midst of an arena tour right now so they have an enormous draw with or without a current hit.

Also, Clancy was No. 3 on the charts. Not sure how to look this up, but it was mentioned on The Tonight Show last week that Clancy is the no. 1 selling 'rock' album of the year thus far.

It's crazy that "Fuck Republicans, fuck Democrats, big time fuck Donald Trump, I'm voting for Kamala, genocide is bad, please respect me I'm a human being" is how this started. That's... an extremely safe & overwhelmingly agreeable statement?

As someone who is planning to vote for Kamala but has a bunch of issues with the Democratic party, it's wild how people in that group just feel ENTITLED to have certain celebrities endorse their candidate.

When political discourse and celebrity parasocial relationships merge, you just get one big shit salad. Especially when that political discourse lacks all sorts of nuance.

These people are put in a "damned if you don, damned if you don't" situation. Not saying anything is not an option anymore.

That's not how it started, though. The headline featured was her saying, "Both sides have problems." Obviously, people should not have just gone off the headline, but we know that's a triggering phrase, and the majority of people don't look beyond it.

whether its justified or not, she is speedrunning her way to morrisey/lauryn hill levels of "no-show risk" notoriety.

I disagree to the extent that journalists don't NEED to ask any pop star about current affairs or politics uninitiated. It's all for clicks and pot stirring. If an artist is on stage making statements, then sure, follow that up. But why can't we just have musicians that have a stage presence and they just play?

I agree that in Chappell's situation there is more going on and it's a tale of a 'normal' person thrust into the spotlight and realizing that the average person has no boundaries whatsoever with celebrities. I have only seen someone famous out a few times, and each time I have respectfully just tried to say 'hey, I recognize you and appreciate your talent and what you're doing' and moved on. No picture, no handshake, no loud 'OH SHIT! You're from blah blah blah'.

Also at the end of the day, why do they even have to think what you think anyway? If it's a heinous belief say fuck em and move on. I mostly do not care beyond the extremes what the musicians I listen to think politically and I am never trying to search it out.
