Agreed! And everyone who works on the tour should do it for free too!

Now there's an idea! What if we subsidized Warped Tour using tax dollars?

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

We have have inmates work Warped for free, as community service

    idk man

Was wondering when someone was going to bring this up. I got a two day pass and will probably see more bands at that fest than I see at a one-day fest for the same price, if not less.

Sort of weird how many people are running wild with the whole WARPED IS BACK angle when it sounds like it's literally just another iteration of WWWY in California with Warped branding. The whole premise of Warped, in general, was to be nationwide and traveling and accessible for the greatest number of people possible, so how exactly is Warped back?

Yeah the appeal of Warped is that I could see a big festival with 10-15 bands that I loved as well as a bunch of bands I’d like to check out but wouldn’t go see them on their own tour and it was only an hour from my house. It was the one day a year that something like happened near me. It was affordable and a great place to discover new music. You’d literally see bands blow up on the tour. This just sounds like another LN festival that isn’t going to be any cooler than Riot Fest or WWWY already is.

Talking about Warped really makes me miss those all day traveling multi-genre festivals. My favorite was Moby’s Area Festival.

    A $40 lawn ticket in 2001 and I got to see…

    Moby
    Gwen Stefani
    New Order
    OutKast
    Kelis
    Nelly Furtado
    Incubus
    The Roots
    Paul Oakenfold
    Carl Cox

Right! And all the bands will be paid with "exposure".

I mean, it was easy to get free tickets back in the day.

And it’s not like bands weren’t making money as long as they moved merch. In 2005 MCR was pulling in hundreds of thousands of dollars just on merch (like weekly)

The problem in 2024 is that bands don’t need to travel the country to get discovered by new ears, they just need to blow up on TikTok

I was struggling to articulate this yesterday, but this is exactly how I feel about it. Warped Tour was the highlight of my summer as a kid because it was my first time seeing so many bands that I loved (and in my city, most clubs were 18+ at the time) or bands I might not pay to see headline or whatever but was curious about. I remember going to Warped the first few years and it being my first time seeing Blink-182, Less Than Jake, NOFX, Bad Religion, Rancid, Green Day, MxPx, the Bouncing Souls, A.F.I., and so on. It's the reason I discovered hip-hop too. It was a big deal for me.

And it was all at a decent price point. Prices have increased over the years so whatever they put together I'm not going to criticize that. But in terms of the general "spirit" of the whole thing... It was just so unique that would be impossible to re-create in the current era.

I think you're right in that it'll just be another WWYF clone cashing in on nostalgia for the last half of the tour's existence while ignoring everything that made it interesting in the first place. LOL

I also like how people are acting like Warped didn’t pay bands. Like sure if you were on Kevin Says or one of the local stages you probably didn’t make much, but the tour was heavily sponsored and bands were paid decent/made a lot off of merch. It’s not like the bands were playing for free lol

Exactly! I was just getting into the scene when I went to Warped in 06. It was my first concert ever and discovering bands I’d never heard of like Saves The Day, Saosin and Against Me! Was fucking life changing. I mostly went for Rise Against and Silverstein but discovered a ton of my favorite bands at that show. It was in the middle of a gigantic field in some hodunk town 45 minutes outside of Portland. It was the greatest thing ever not to be at some shitty LN venue. There’s nothing they can do to recreate that time/place.

LaSalle Park Warped Tours were my favorite. Pretty sure I have those same ticket stubs laying around somewhere.

Warped, even back in the day, should have a base charge, but it was honestly really easy to get in for free with how much promotion they did.

Hearing from a few sources that the Metallica tour is announcing on Monday. Gonna be cities that they missed in the US. Not sure if it's in the round again

I don't think Austin has a big enough venue for Metallica to play, but man I want to see Metallica.

Anti flag members still live off of merch money from warped. A friend of mine who knows them told me that they made 25k a day on warped in 2005 alone.

  24. Can't remember if it was in one of the books on the Warped scene that came out last year or a conversation I had with someone who did the tour a couple times, but the merch numbers the bigger bands on Warped would do were absolutely insane.

even with certain duds, this is probably unironically better than the actual warped tour 2 electric boogaloo lineup will be.
