Maybe I'm opening a can of worms here, but isn't the NFL schedule planned out, like, years in advance? Or it certainly could be. When the stadiums start taking holds for concerts (also well over a year in advance for the biggest artists, I imagine), they obviously know what their open dates are based on their teams' schedules.

Riot Fest and the Red Stars was clearly more the exception than the rule.

 

no nfl schedule is not planned out years in advance its determined after the season. you know some teams youre playing but not the schedule and not every team youll play. my original point was more about im skeptical that many teams would willing give up potential for home game week 1 to host an oasis show

 

Ah, I actually didn't know that. I figured it was just a formula where you play X number of games against teams in your division, Y number of games against non-division teams in your conference, etc (pretty sure this is how baseball works), and you could run an algorithm to plan it out however far you needed to.

I still don't think NFL games are getting bumped or moved for any of these shows — maybe Taylor Swift has that power, but I agree that Oasis probably doesn't. But that's the kind of thing I'd love to talk to someone in the industry about.

Not to pile on, but the Soldier Field date would be the week before the season starts and the MetLife date is in the middle of the week. So this argument is actually about 1 stadium.
