are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

started as a joke, but tbh - off the top of my head, the best concerts i've been to, other than insect warfare at maryland deathfest 2016/7(?) and neurosis/amenra at the empty bottle, were the ones I did not have to pay an arm and a leg for:

-modern life is war house show - 2007
    -defeater house show - 2009
    -terror in my college's cafeteria - 2007
-the gaslight anthem @ the jewish mother deli in virginia beach - 2008
-black breath @ strange matter in rva - 2012
-nails/full of hell @ the empty bottle in chicago - 2016(?)
-power trip @ the empty bottle in chicago - 2017(?)
-cult leader @ subterranean - don't remember the year on this one, but Cult leader playing a floor show downstairs there was fucking bananas.

due to children, i haven't been to a lot of shows the last few years, but the smaller/local ones at venues that don't charge an arm and leg for alcohol and merch cuts have always been more fun than big venue shows...other than avail and gaslight anthem at brown's island earlier this year, but that was an exception to the norm.

Ha it depends on everyone's set-up with their spouses. My wife and I maintain separate checking accounts yet contribute to various other savings funds and have an expectation that each of us are financially responsible and won't spend outside means or put ourselves into debt. $800 on a concert ticket is too rich for my blood as well but for some people might be worth it.

  5. This is exactly what we do too and it’s worked perfectly for 17 years now give or take. As long as everything gets paid on time we don’t ask each other questions* about packages that show up etc. lol

*barring the high 3 figure concert ticket purchase, obv haha

So much of this also hinges on how one chooses to spend their money. Having a two decent paying jobs in a single household without kids is helpful but... I dunno.

I feel guilty as fuck if I spend more than like, $75 for a single ticket. So I limit myself to one bigger, non-festival show per year at most (this generally goes unused). It just feels like such a massive waste of money when I consider the number of smaller shows I could attend that I'd just get way more joy out seeing of than paying triple digits so I can tick a box and say I saw some younger pop artist, I like 2-3 songs by, or some geriatric classic rock artist.

There are exceptions but the overwhelming majority of shows I've been to, the cost of the show was in inverse relation to how much fun I had/how good the show was

That being said, I saw the Stones a couple years ago (snagged cheap tickets) and they were fantastic. WAAAY better than I expected for a band their age

I just used my budgeting app to figure out how much money I’ve spent on concert tickets over the past 8 years….

A pretty wild number, but even if had I saved every penny instead, I’d still never be able to buy a house

    No regrets I guess?!?

I'm sure there's someone here close enough to join it. I got about 12 years to go though.

The first presale was for AARP members and people were making accounts to get the early sale… no one could really get their codes cus the site was crashing most of the day lol

Any word on where QOTSA tour will be hitting?

Doubt I can make the LA show on the 16th. I just want it to be reasonably close to where I am. Haha
