Yeah it’s whatever genre you’re entrenched in. A friend of mine said the Maine sounds like maroon 5 and I was all “how dare you” but then I said 2 “core” bands I get mixed up with and he was like “how? 1 is metalcore and the other is post-hardcore!”

 

Added one more show but at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

I mean, this music is very much not in my wheelhouse but as a person who generally tracks festival line-ups, radio airplay, and whatever... There's a whole bunch of bands with some combination of Beach, Glass, House, Weather, Animals, or whatever in their name.

Yeah, it's whatever you're into or (to be fully honest) what you care to be bothered with. And I don't mean that as a judgement either!

If you don't care about "Chorus"-type bands then it stands to reason that you wouldn't bother to spend the time with the music to explore the differences... Because it's largely just background noise.

The clear differentiator for me is: Shit you'll hear out in public that won't irritate you versus something you actively listen to and engage with on your own.

This is a great example. And it happens in every genre that gets any sort of traction in such a way that the press covers it. It's not always about who is "authentic" or not...

I always use the ska memes as a reference point here. When people talk about ska sounding like mozzarella sticks and Hawaiian t-shirts they are literally only talking about Reel Big Fish as far as the bigger artists go. But it works as a trop because they're one of the biggest and unless you're really into the genre... Nobody cares about the differences between bands. Haha.

might be, I thought I remember something about them touring in 2024 at some point.

Saw them in November together at Dia De Los Deftones, makes sense.

 

Speaking of: I hope this comes back this year. I’ve been dying to go to one and I somehow haven’t seen Deftones in 9 years…

If it were doable yes in a heartbeat. I'm a manager at an understaffed hotel, and I have a 4 year old so I sadly can't drop that kind of money on a flight this last minute.

I was being, probably unnecessarily, sarcastic. I get it. There are sooooo many shows coming up that I'd have gone to in a heartbeat last year, but am skipping this year due to a new found sense of 'financial responsibility'. Makes me sick.

 

They are one of my favorite festivals, I've been to every one of them and the experience is awesome if you are mexican and are used to celebrating Dia De Los Muertos, they represent the culture very well.

 

It's going to be really funny when/if it's Five Finger Death Punch. I don't have any insider info, I just like imagining the collective disdain/disappointment.
