Interesting that so many major cities had to be canceled for poor sales, yet NYC she has 4 arena shows still on the books. Took a glance at all four - 1st night at MSG was basically sold out before they added seats behind the stage. Prudential Center show also seems to have sold pretty well. But 2nd night at MSG and the UBS show looks like it barely sold any tickets. One or both of those are bound to get canned.

The ticket prices for these shows are pretty wild. I think some of these older acts struggle to realize that people being aware of you in the culture with songs primarily from 15+ years ago doesn't necessarily mean that people are passionate enough about your art to pay triple-figures to see you live.

Probably a tough pill to swallow. But that's the reality, I think...

Yep. People want to see J-Lo because she's an A-lister, not because her music is resonant or relevant in 2024. Pricing her as a big current music artist was a big miscalculation from her team.

The J.Lo tour falling on its face is fascinating, IMO. I wonder if her team saw P!nk's doing so well and thought "hey, us too!"

I don't think J Lo, musically, is quite as ubiquitous as Pink. I also wonder if her audience is typically more working class than that of the other pop acts which also would explain some of the slow sales. May not be a majority demo that has 300-400 concert tickets in their budget.

She never shied away from being a Puerto Rican from the Bronx, & the Hispanic/Latino population in the NYC metro area is roughly 5 million. There might be pockets of popularity, but yeah, it seems like her team just entirely overestimated her universal appeal

yeah, an interesting thought to imagine her team miscalculated that very thing to that degree.

    Things have changed.

She hasn't had a top 10 U.S. hit as the main artist on a song since 2002.

    EDIT: She's had one!

When I worked at Capitol Records in 2014 they gave a company wide presentation about the upcoming J Lo single, I Luv u Papi, and how it was gonna be the biggest global song of the year. When they finally played the song I was starting to think I've become completely out of touch with pop culture.....until the song bombed lol

There are plenty of artists who sell well that aren't particularly "relevant." It's more about knowing your price point and your audience.

If this were a summer ampitheater tour at about 50% the cost it would be doing just fine (and amping up the fact that it's her first tour in X years in all the promo materials).

Had a similar feeling when I interned at Columbia in 2005 and the radio people were all excited about that band Crossfade going platinum.

Still a running joke with a friend of mine that there was a guy in the band JUST to do the “I never meant to be so cold” backing vocal

I’m a nu metal/post-grunge defender but….i can’t find anything to enjoy about Crossfade. Hookless hick rock in my opinion.
