To each their own I guess.... Bright Eyes were a trainwreck live at wwwy, I know who sunny day are but couldn't name a single song and Cap'N Jazz.. sorry, I only know Morgan and Crunch.

There's a few undercard bands that are decent but it's a really a nostalgia trip down the lane of 'I think I know who you are but remind me... what's your hit again?'

EDIT: And 3 days? yeah, totally weak for me but for those that are hyped that's cool.

If you’re a band that constantly is touring which most of the Sad Summer bands are then that’s potentially going to hurt your draw for a big festival like Sad Summer. If these bands were just hitting cities once every few years or once a year or once an album cycle then there would probably be more demand but with how often they all tour and how the top two are repeats…we’ll see.

  4. It's a pretty niche festival outside of the headliners (arguably even including the headliners aside from Bright Eyes), and I'm dead center of the target audience for it. I'd be over the moon if it was my area. There are like five bands that I truly didn't think would ever play again.

Also I feel like Sad Summer Fest has never been good at diversifying their lineups and has always been male dominant. It is kind of funny how WWWY got called out for the lack of women and POCs on the lineup (and had to publicly course correct) and Sad Summer just didn’t see that and take the hint (or did and don’t care), but hey maybe they’ll also get called out a bunch for it.

If the only women on your lineup are on the bottom line (except for one member of The Summer Set) and you have no POCs on the lineup (correct me if I am wrong)…yeah that’s a problem.

    Things have changed.

There are five acts with women on the tour, albeit playing different dates. But every show should have at least three acts with women. Some have four.

The POC issue is absolutely still valid and has been an issue since the tour started.

Yeah they tend to just throw the opening slots to bands with women in them. It’s definitely crappy when they be diversifying. Nobody is going to miss seeing any of the top six for the 100th time if you replace them with a band with representation.

I’m pretty sure it’d be a mark of shame if any of these bands accidentally made a hit song. Mass appeal is entirely antithetical to what that whole scene is about.

Right I totally get that but I just think they could do a bit better job, especially when these acts with women are (mostly) bottom line acts which means they will play very early to smaller crowds. Which I get, they’re smaller acts, but it would be nice to have more diversity all around for the higher up acts.

When We Were Young is a different circumstance since it's a one day festival that has a massive budget to fly in whoever for two shows vs a six week nationwide traveling festival with huge gaps in the routing. A bigger tentpole band in place of We the Kings or Mayday Parade with greater representation would've been great, for sure.

  14. BFF is soooo much my vibe compared to Sad Summer. Besides Daisy Grenade, not a single bad I'd care to see on Sad Summer. But BFF has like... 10 that I'm stoked on, and a handful that are really cool.

Surprised Sad Summer has never tried to get Meet Me @ The Altar. All female act and POC, and they've really been growing in popularity these last couple of years. Wouldn't be headliners, but certainly wouldn't be bottom line either.

    I mean I'm sure they've tried. It's all a two-way street.

  17. Maybe they have tried to get them, but they said no. It's possible.

For what it's worth, it seems like MM@TA's agents are very selective about what opportunities they take. I tried booking them last year for my University and their fly-out quote was $30,000, which is way higher than most bands their size.

Between that, and their tours with Green Day, 5SOS, and MUNA, it seems pretty clear to me that they want to do their own thing, and not get trapped in the "emo scene," for better or for worse.

PVRIS and Stand Atlantic were both "mid line" bands last year, went on after Hot Mulligan in Baltimore

Honey Revenge is apparently on this too. I heard about this to be a Sad Summer Fest style tour. Definitely interested to see how they pull this off
