    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

NOFX (well, basically most punk bands from that era) are pretty big in the UK, so it’s not TOO surprising at all...

The thing that surprises me is, the fact NOFX is even on the lineup for this. I would’ve never pinned them as a band to play Slam Dunk

They have had a pretty great output the last few years regardless of their draw so I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. They didn't really start playing up nostalgia until a few years ago once their draw had already dwindled. The band fell off mostly due to the the second album not having sustained success followed by the death of a band member. They did grow stale really quickly with the 2nd album but I feel like they have gotten much better as a band since then. They just never regained the crowd they lost and struggled to get on credible tours for the longest time.

fragile future was dogshit, skeletons was solid, the EP idea was badly executed, frequencies was glory chasing and the new one is forgettable, but worst of all none of it feels creatively interesting or like the band have any ideas beyond "well, we've got a new album better write more songs about being on tour."

compare HH to the career paths of their early-aughts scene contemporaries that have toured/released about the same amount like FOB, TBS, Silverstein, Senses Fail, The Used, etc. even though i'm personally not a fan of many of those bands' later material, each of them at least have a vision for those bands that has constantly evolved over the years, they know how to balance the nostalgia stuff, and you can tell their tastes have changed over the years.

other big reason HH have fallen off? their live performance, in general, is completely catatonic. JT sounds like a robot inbetween songs, and it just isn't as interesting as other stuff that's out there

Their new album is pure gold, and the 2015 EP/mini-album is just as great. They literally have one bad album, which unfortunately for them was the follow-up to their breakout record. Anyway, 14 years later they're still going, so I guess they win in the end.
