    Things have changed.

Pumpkins on this tour makes sense.

I am pretty sure Green Day and The Offspring have some weird, unspoken beef that stems from the 90's. The Offspring politely declined to comment on a bio written about Green Day and I imagine there is some sour grapes on The Offspring's part due to GD surging past them in popularity. I also saw both GD and Offspring at a radio fest and '98 and I'm willing to bet money that The Offspring specifically requested NOT to play right before GD (though they are WWWY fest so who knows).

Rise Against would definitely fit the vibe but I'm not sure they are as big of a ticket mover as SP. Truth be told, I think this is not the best gamble in terms of selling out baseball stadiums (which I presume they are doing instead of NFL stadiums). The whole premise of Hella Mega was that most people were big fans of ALL 3 acts. There are definitely RAncid fans who don't like SP, GReen Day fans who don't like SP and SP fans who don't care about Green Day or Rancid. Add the fact that all 3 acts have been fairly consistently playing over the past 2-3 years, this will be a buyers market.

SIDENOTE: I'm still PISSED NYC got shafted by FOB dropping off their Hella Mega date in 2021.

Good points. Also, SP has had a weird surge of popularity the past couple years with the Gen Z crowd. So I could see GD/SP being a hot ticket for them.

Also, RE: that Offspring beef, I recall Noodles saying in a Q&A that they never had anything against Green Day and that they were all buds. But maybe there’s more to it

Yeah you just missed the end of the quote

”we never had anything against Green Day and we are all buds. But I would be down to kick their ass based purely on looks”

Yeah, I think they're probably cool with each other at this point. There was a few shit-talky quotes in the 90's but I think that was just due to them being grouped together so often and probably getting irritated by it. A Billie Joe Armstrong/Dexter Holland sideproject collab would be amazing given the songwriting talents of those two.

I’ve never been a massive Pumpkins fan aside from the hits and would likely never see them in any other capacity, so I’m okay with them being on this tour. Most excited for the GD/Rancid pairing.

If anyone here knows anything about dates for this, I’m begging you to DM me and let me know if it’s coming to Toronto or not lol

I also wonder how much of that is media contrived. The best way to get people to buy shit & pay attention is making head to head battles... NSYNC vs BSB, East vs West Coast rap, Blur vs Oasis... shit I just saw a BN vs TBS shirt for sale on insta last week... anybody down to derail the thread today & recall a bunch of bands that hate each other?

That Green Day/Pumpkins tour seems like a perfect candidate for the newly reopened (for concerts) Providence Park in Portland. That could also just me getting my hopes up though.

I mean, if we're keeping with the theme of today, Billie Joe talked a ton of shit about Billy Corgan/The Smashing Pumpkins in a Guitar World interview in 1996. To be fair, he did conceed that Billy Corgan was an excellent basketball player.

Here's the full Green Day - > Smashing Pumpkins quote (thanks internet):

ARMSTRONG When 'Nevermind' came out, everybody was going for that "Butch Vig Big Muff sound." We just
couldn't do that. Instead of sounding bigger, it would be defeating. So much saturation with such fast-paced
music would sound like shit. But I really think Guns N' Roses' 'Appetite for Destruction' has a really good
sound. I like that record a lot. I'm not ashamed to say it, either. I like a lot of the Cure's guitar playing, too.
Robert Smith writes great songs and gets really great guitar sounds. I like Elvis Costello, and some of the
guitar sounds he gets, too. Are you a Bush fan?

    GW No.
ARMSTRONG Good. I think those are some of the crappiest guitar sounds I've ever heard in my life. That
song "Glycerine" has to have the shiftiest guitar sound ever.
DIRNT I don't like some of the vocal effects they use, either.
ARMSTRONG I've talked a lot of shit about Smashing Pumpkins, but I think the guitar sound on "1979" is
really good, and so is the song itself.
DIRNT I think us talking shit about Smashing Pumpkins is more just making fun of how pathetic those guys are.
Especially Billy Corgan. I think it would have been better if he hadn't made such a big issue of his guitar
playing right when they put out their first album, like "I played most of the guitar on this album. Any hot licks
you hear, that's me, not James [ha]."
