  1. Yeah maybe. That's their #3 most popular song on Spotify. But I bet my wife wouldn't know that song, and she definitely knows "Ocean Avenue" and "Only One." I think to Yellowcard fans, "Lights and Sounds" would be considered a hit of theirs. But to a casual radio listener, I can't imagine that one being too well known.

I worked at a big amphitheater one summer too. As you stated, lots of shows with zero intent on selling out. The venue staff absolutely hated Warped Tour, because long hours and low bar sales.

Country crowds were the rudest and least passionate. I.e. the pit for Lana filled up in the 30 mins, but pit for country shows was empty until the headliner. Country shows often had the highest attendance though. The Lana show didn’t sell well relative to Rascal Flatts, but the fans at Rascal Flatts couldn’t care less.

It's wild how many tickets country shows move. Toby Keith, Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley, and Rascal Flatts would play the same venue like 3 out of 4 summers, with little new music and essentially the same set. Yet they'd move 17-20K easily...the crowd, especially the lawn crowd just treated as a social event, never seen less people paying attention at a show before.

The amount of girls in tied flannel shirts and jean shorts puking against the wall at the back of lawn was always vile.

Adding to the whole "band playing their biggest hit as the set opener" conversation, I know Foo Fighters have opened with Everlong before (even though I've never personally seen them do it). But also I think they have wayyy more hits beyond that, and if you're at a Foos show only to hear Everlong, like why?

I don't think anybody at a Foo Fighters show is going just for "Everlong." They have enough hits that most people would have heard, that it kinda doesn't matter.

But there is definitely a sizable chunk of the Yellowcard fanbase that won't sit through the entire set after they play "Ocean Avenue." I doubt they would leave immediately after at a headlining show but... Maybe stick around for another 15-30 to "get their money's worth and bail."

Not my speed, but it's very much a thing.

Soon emo is going to be replaced by Nu Metal nostalgia everywhere

Hasn't it basically already started with the whole Sick New World festival? Plus certain subsects of the metalcore scene are already or are attempting to bring It back.

I am going to attend a Killers show in Belfast this August and I looked up recent setlists to see what they have been playing and I was shocked to see them opening with Mr Brightside at some shows.

I think the zeitgeist was pulling for that the last few years and it never really took off.

That might be their biggest hit but it doesn't really overshadow the rest of their setlist. They have more hits besides that.

  16. lets not forget that this festival exists:

The Yellowcard/Memphis May Fire coheadliner Ryan stopped the show to explain the next song wasn't the last one and please don't leave because there's another song. They played Ocean Avenue and then Ryan played California to end the set. It was kinda weird especially since a good chunk left after MMF

When i saw Carly Rae Jepsen she played Call Me Maybe as like the 6th song in a 20+ song set and I thought that was really cool

It does seem weird but then you remember it's Ryan Key and how he talks so much between the songs and it makes more sense

She does this all the time, the mass exodus at her Coachella 2022 set after she played it was really depressing.

I saw her both weekends and she actually pushed it to later in the set weekend 2 because of that haha

They've done it before as they have enough surefire crowd pleasers I suppose it's not that big of a waste. THAT being said, I don't think it truly functions well as an opener. Somebody Told Me and Human are far better BIG openers. Mr. Brightside is always a perfect set closer.
