The modern/active rock radio festivals from like 97-04 presented some truly fascinating lineups. In the NYC area, K-Rock pretty much led the charge in the nu metal/butt-rock takeover of the late 90's/early 00's since it was the flagship station for Howard Stern but they would still have Blink and NFG thrown in on bills with, like, Disturbed and Papa Roach.

The Sno-core tour of 2002 as a fucking weird one: Alien Ant Farm, Adema, Glassjaw, The Apex Theory and Earshot all played the NYC date.

K rock always killed it with their lineups for almost acoustic Christmas and weenie roast or whatever their summer one was called.

q101 in Chicago has had a couple decent ones the last few years for nights we stole Christmas. I could care less for their picnic lineups tho

Also I think they might pull something crazy this year and get ratm to play. Seeing rage at the aragon would be insane

97x’s Next Big Thing in Tampa had some insane lineups as well. I went in 06 and 07.

Speaking of radio festivals, I went to Xfest in Cleveland in 2003 - Staind, Seether, Cold, Smile Empty Soul, Trapt, Head P.E. - but I was mostly going for The Used, but Bert had passed out on stage a few nights prior and cancelled their next few shows. Can't remember which band, but someone called Bert and put him on speaker phone to talk to the crowd.

I didn't go to it, but I just looked it up online and apparently the 2004 Xfest in Cleveland had My Chemical Romance at the bottom of the bill of: Godsmack, Cypress Hill, NFG, Fuel, Dropbox and Breaking Benjamin.

    Wild.

I thought it was Crime in Stereo, ADTR, ISHC, FYS, then NFG. I went to the one in Providence, so I might have bumped FYS up im my brain because of the local backing, but not sure anymore. Either way, excellent tour.

That makes sense. I went to a Florida show so they probably put ADTR before nfg for that date.

  12. Radio fests are always crazy haha.

In 2000, I saw a radio fest that had Everclear, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Dynamite Hack, MXPX, Alien Ant Farm, Goldfinger, Deftones, Orgy, Harvey Danger, and Zebrahead.

Yeah, those K-ROCK line-ups were always interesting but a little smaller than what we got up here in Boston from WBCN. We had the benefit of that rotating stage and a second stage area too. Nu-metal was definitely a part of the whole thing from 2000-2003, but with the exception of 2000 they didn't lean too hard into it.

In fact, the festival line-ups never had much of a focus at all, TBH. It always felt like a sampler of everything on alt-rock radio at the time. Which was kinda cool looking back at it.

Main stage: Dropkick Murphys, Good Charlotte, Beck, Jack Johnson, Saliva, Jane's Addiction, A.F.I., Evanescence, the Used, the Donnas, and Saliva
Side stage: Finch, the Ataris, Hot Hot Heat, Interpol, (hed)p.e., Dresden Dolls

They also had OutKast as a headliner in 2002 which was wildly cool at the time. And I feel super lucky in hindsight because I don't think I ever would have seen them otherwise.

Can someone please tell me when this whole conversation stops? I keep coming in to the thread and seeing these crazy posters and only after I get excited I see it's from 10 years ago.

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

The billing for this is wild. Third Eye Blind, and Good Charlotte under ATL and LMFAO is so weird lol.

Not to mention seeing Simple Plan billed so low on the lineup too
