Oh interesting, I didn't realize that. I wonder why that is, especially since I think The Mowgli's are gonna draw pretty well too. Like the Portland venue is the biggest they've played here, and a couple others jumped out to me as being unexpectedly large. But either way, I don't think they're on the decline just yet. I feel you about using the fest as proof of their draw, my bad, but it does show how dedicated and supportive their fan base is. Fully agree about Neck Deep outdrawing them, though, their scene is massive right now.

The Portland venue is only big because Senses Fail already booked the Hawthorne Theater that night and The Maine is too big to play the Analog. The Wonder will barely be 2/3 full for this.

Dang I didn't even think of that. I mean maybe Mowgli's fans will fill it up but yeah you're probably right.

I definitely see ND as the next Blink since they feel the most similar to them than the rest of the bands in the genre. But the SC comparison to NFG is quite interesting, never thought of it like that but I really like it for some reason.

Somebody in another forum I post on said that their local Rock radio station has an announcement on Monday and are claiming it to be the biggest show they've announced in years. I assume they're probably just building up hype. I could see it being the Ozzy tour that Chicago Open Air is a part of. He hasn't done a solo tour in the States since 2011 I believe. Otherwise, I can't think of anything that they would build up like that.

Could be them hyping up a Metallica tour. Or it could be Ozzy like you said.

I've actually heard rumors of Metallica announcing their US tour within the next week or two.

I have heard Metallica's tour will be coming this week as well. Hope it is them.

I wonder who they'll bring along as an opener

Ryan Kirby posted about Backwordz on his Facebook fan page saying he would like to tour with them someday.

    FFAK/Silent Planet/Wage War/Backwordz in fall 2017 would be stacked

Well I'm almost positive the Metallica tour will be a summer/fall stadium tour. Cool part about Metallica tours is that they take out already popular bands and never have a throw-away opener. My money is on Gojira (Kirk and James love their new album).

Baroness share management with Metallica and are long overdue for a full out tour with them

Another great pick! I can easily see a Metallica Gojira & Baroness tour especially if Magma wins a Grammy. What I'd love to see would be a Summer Sanitarium revival with 3 or 4 bands. Have something like Metallica/Volbeat/Ghost/Gojira/Baroness. I'd easily pay $100+ for that lineup.

And now would be the time to revive a major touring Hard Rock/Metal fest, even if just for one summer. Nobody's stepped up to replace Mayhem Fest yet which surprises me a bit.

Absolutely agree! Bring back Family Values and/or Summer Sanitarium for the heavier acts. Keep Carnival of Madness for the lighter acts. From the looks of things, I think Mayhem Fest could've still been around. I know they had a lot of losses in 2015 but wasn't that because the original headliner backed out and they just promoted Slayer? Something tells me it was supposed to be Rammstein or Maiden but I could be 100% wrong.

It's probably financially better for bands to just go on 3-4 band ampitheater tours in the summer than do a Mayhem/Uproar type tour. Rob Zombie/Korn/In This Moment, Slipknot/Marilyn Manson/Of Mice & Men, Disturbed/Breaking Benjamin/Alter Bridge/Saint Asonia all probably could have combined to one big festival but it probably earned them more money doing it separately.

I remember hearing Lamb Of God was supposed to play that summer, but opted for the Slipknot/Bullet For My Valentine tour instead. Not sure how true that is.

I'm sure that competing with Slipknot/LoG/BFMV/MiW was the real killer. Like comapre that lineup with the main stage lineup of 2015 and there's no competition.

King Diamond barely ever touring anymore was probably the biggest selling point of Mayhem 2015, but even that's just a niche appeal anyway.

Agreed 100% but there's always been other hard rock/metal tours that people went to. As much as people love Slayer, they're not really an amphitheater headliner without at least another high profile thrash band (Megadeth/Anthrax/Testament/etc). The Slipknot tour is basically a Mayhem main stage. If Mayhem 2015's main stage was Slipknot/KD/LoG/Bullet, MiW/Hellyeah/TDWP rotating a closing spot on the second stage with Whitechapel/Thy Art/Code Orange/Jungle Rot, it would probably be one of the most successful tours of the last 10 years. Obviously having this lineup isn't cheap but it's completely doable.

The problem with that is they just toured the US in 2014. If Mayhem was the first US tour back for King, it would've drew a lot better.

Metallica? Kidding. Someone said The Browning/The Last Ten Seconds Of Life was a thing, so maybe that.
