I'd def put TOP on the radar of doing lots of festivals this run. They won't book any of the majors outside of Lolla but lot's of regional fests and alt-pop radio fests will def put them on the lineup.

They've kind of aged out of Bonnaroo, Coachella, ACL, and the other majors. I don't see those fests blowing a large part of their budget on an act that doesn't really lineup with their core demo.

I still think they'd be a perfect fit for major festivals but, yeah, I guess not having a verified hit in 3-4 years does age them out.

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

I think Green Day could be possible for Lolla too, seeing that they’re doing Shaky Knees and did Life Is Beautiful this year

It's wild seeing such high-billing at the major fests for artists with such thin catalogues. The amount of hip-hop and pop artists being booked in high spots with less than 60mins recorded material is kinda crazy.

Prepare for Olivia Rodrigo getting 75 min sets at festivals in 2022 and barely filling 60mins of it.

She could probably pad it out with outtakes or new songs but, yeah, gonna be hard for her to headline with such limited material. I'm really hoping more niche fests built around alternative/indie/rock and left-of-center pop/hip-hop start happening. The mainstream festivals have essentially been co-opted by Top 40/Spotify which isn't bad as there is a huge audience for that, just not something that I want to go to and I think many of my peers (who now have more disposable income) would gladly shell out for a smaller curated festival such as a Just Like Heaven.

Completely agree. The major fests are still really fun and well produced, the lineups are just becoming very Top 40. III Points, Riot Fest, Shaky Knees, Movement, Lightning in a Bottle, and Desert Daze are all booking really solid lineups in a more niche way.

Old man rant...but festivals used to feel very much like counter culture. Are they still viewed that way and I'm just too old to realize?

  10. All in all, I don't think they are. Even smaller fests that curate interesting lower-bills are very organized, heavily sponsored, and accessible for mainstream audiences.

Concerts in general were kinda considered counter-culture as there was a fair amount of investment (both financially and in terms of time) involved in getting to know an artist, buying tickets, etc. Now with streaming, music is much more accessible and thus more people are interested in going to see acts which is why, like, Rage Against The Machine is doing 5 nights in NYC at MSG when, even at their peak in the 90's/early 00's, they would typically do one arena date. The need to sell 50,000 tickets to certain events means the lineup has to appeal to the most amount of people which has brought the onslaught of top 40 into these festivals

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

Sucks to see this starting to happen again. Seemed a lot of tours were in the clear for a while.

  18. It’s about time for everyone to start needing the booster shots. So we are probably gonna be seeing a lot more positive tests.

  19. Yeah there's a reason FDA approval for that came out Friday. Waning immunity + any seasonality factors to the virus

It seems Bad Religion canceled their performance tonight last minute. Someone on the AK3 Facebook group says one of BR the members tested positive
