Dave Matthews Band Summer 2020 Tour moved to Summer 2021. Bummed, but at least the show I have tickets for remains on a Saturday.

You guys write bummed like you are super surprised. Be happy it’s still happening. If Korn and Faith No More gets completely scrapped I’ll be bummed but at this point I’d rather just move everything to next summer

It’s possible to be bummed without being surprised. I think that is the case for most of us here.

So do you all think any venues will open back up this year? A show I had a ticket to just rescheduled (for the second time) to August and it's at a small venue, but I'm just curious because I've heard takes such as "all live music is probably cancelled this year" or something similar, and I have no idea what to think.

I mean even the end of the year is an arbitrary date. Cancelling shows in December and not February doesn't make sense to me, they're not that far away from eachother. Aiming for a specific re-opening date is pointless. Not really anything to do at this point besides take it a day/week/month at a time

It’s so hard to say at this point. I have tickets to shows at Reggie’s and Subterranean in Chicago in October. I’m hopeful those can still happen because the venues are so small.

It's entirely possible that most (if not all) live music winds up getting cancelled for 2020. But there are so many factors that play into it... The biggest thing is increasing the capacity and efficiency for testing, developing an effective treatment, and/or developing a vaccine. If we're able to do any of that as a society, then the odds of Event X happening increases (but it still isn't 100% because you're going to be dealing with the economic impacts, general feelings of uncertainty).

Anybody saying "all live music is cancelled" is thinking about this within the context of where things currently stand. Ineffective testing, no readily available treatment, and no vaccine. If nothing changes, then yeah, we probably won't be able to fully get back to live music anytime soon.

But if we're somehow able to discover a treatment and/or a vaccine and effectively implement it? Things will open up. But that's a pretty big "if." And if you follow the news about those treatments that changes day to day. Something looks promising, then fails; then another drug that looks promising pops up. The medical community is going to keep going at it until they find something, I'm sure.

It's entirely plausible that we find a cure for this thing in a few months. But getting it implemented and widely circulated is a whole different thing... If we can manage to do that, though? It would be a game-changer.

So yeah. Like somebody said above - it's a day by day, week by week thing.

Which is why I don't begrudge anybody for rescheduling something in the fall/winter that they already have locked down. Why not hope for the best if you think there's a shot it might happen?

When is Riot Fest going to cancel? I guess I don’t see the point for holding out.

What would be the logistical restraints to just sending a COVID test to everyone with tickets to the event, so they can take it the night before? And have your negative test be checked with your ID?

Obviously it's expesnive and not 100% accurate right now, but how about 5 months from now?

This would be a bad idea for a number of reasons, but the two main ones being:

    A) The average person doesn’t know what exactly to look for. That’s why you have to go to the doctor to see if you have strep throat and you can’t just do your own swab test at home.

    B) You can be asymptomatic, meaning you feel totally fine and buy tickets to a show, take the test after buying tickets, find out you have the virus, and are now out of that money as the show is still happening.

or let’s say you just really really wanna go to the show and feel fine but you have a buddy that has it, so you have someone take the test for you, but you really do have it. Just too many outs for that system to ever be a thought.
