Can't stop listening to these two singles on repeat. And then when I finally do, I'm compelled to revisit Stage Four in its entirety almost every time. One of my most anticipated album releases of the year.
So far I prefer "Green" and "Deflector" (heh) to these two songs, but they're both interesting and listenable. Musically, "I'll be your host" could be a Saves the Day song in a parallel universe where Saves the Day was still good
Hmm, that's gonna be a no from me. Dead Horse, especially the rerecord, is awesome and aggressive, and Parting the Sea was the perfection of that style.
parting the sea is great. dead horse... yeah I agree it's not that great. It's still better than most other bands who play this style.
Been listening to Dark Horse a lot more since the re-recording and honestly, it's one of my favorites now.
It’s a perfect hardcore record to me but it’s my fourth favorite - the band has clearly gotten better with each release
The re-recording they did of Dead Horse last year for its 10 year anniversary is really solid. The only record of theirs I never got into is 2013's Is Survived By
There are some stylistic flourishes and left-field surprises here they wouldn't have touched 7 years ago - they've never struck me as a band particularly hungry to recapture past glories, whatever that might mean for them; once they dropped Stage Four, all bets were off, and picking themselves back up after an album of such brutal honesty and pain to make an album that might be just as good is really something. They're on a hell of a run and Jeremy's lyrics are as on point as they've ever been.
Jeremy is on the latest episode of the Axe to Grind podcast. Really fascinating look into recording with Ross Robinson. He sounds like an intense dude.
