firing up dead horse x. it’s benefitted by the re-record but the songwriting is still pretty amateur here. i’m admittedly not crazy about the saetia/pg.99/city of caterpillar scene it’s indebted to though
1. Is Survived By 2. Stage Four 3. Parting the Sea 4. Dead Horse this album will end up either my favorite or slightly below it for me. Stage Four is fantastic, but is too emotionally draining.
I dig those bands and I dont think dead horse is great lol - tbh I dont think it sounds much like those either
Just cause everyone else is doing it: 1. Stage Four 2. Dead Horse 3. Parting the Sea 4. Is Survived By
The "Do I die a little less often" part on Feign is sooooo good. Super into this on my second listen so far.
Need more time with it but great moments throughout. I think Limelight is a stand-out. The A Forecast's intro doesn't really work for me. As hard as Stage Four is to listen to (lyrically) I think I prefer it due to how varied the song structures are.
This record rips. Just incredible vocals. From the rankings in this thread, maybe I don't need to go back and listen to much before I got into them on Four.
that should not be your takeaway all of their records are great, imo. even dead horse, which is pretty generic, is still most other bands' best record.
I recommend going back to at least Parting The Sea and Is Survived By. And Dead Horse is like 18 minutes so check that out too (the 2019 version). I also didn't get into this band until Stage Four but I've found more appreciation for the older stuff even if it's not at the top of my list.
PTSBBAM definitely is better than i remember and has them stretching out a bit more than i gave it credit for initially but it’s still not my favorite. very front heavy too
If I could remove Reminders and the first part of A Forecast, this album would be flawless. The rest of it is so, so, so good. I can't remember who made the Envy comparison but it's pretty dead on.
It's hard for me to rank the albums. Each one is sentimental to me and got me through some shit. Stage Four was a grower for me for some personal reasons and is now very hard for me to listen to. I have to take more time to dig into Lament. Listened this morning and like Stage Four, at first pass for me, it's ok. But as I get into it more I'm sure I'll love it.
agree to disagree, i feel like it throws the aggression off with this like, Pup sounding song (as someone who has heard exactly 5 pup songs). it feels worse in context for me, but I'm in the minority there
