So, obviously I’m a new fan so my opinion hardly matters, but this is quite easily the best album front to back of the now three I’ve heard. Also, what was my least favorite of the singles (Host) is one of my favorites on the record. The sequencing is perfect.
Whoa I would have never guessed the people he was singing about on "A Forecast" were his bandmates. Really good interview that everyone should check out - Rank Your Records: Touché Amoré's Jeremy Bolm
yeah that's why it was so awkward for Jeremy to have to read the lyrics out loud to everyone in the room and then discuss it haha
5. .... Is Survived By 4. Dead Horse X (original record is very rough production-wise) 3. Parting The Sea Between Brightness and Me 2. Lament 1. Stage Four Yeah, Lament is THAT good IMO. I could see it maybe even knocking Stage Four for the top spot. Aside from Reminders, the record is pretty goddamn perfect.
I just finished my second listen of this and am just not feeling it at the same level you all are. I definitely enjoy the record, but it just feels like a bit of a comedown, conceptually, after a crazy progression from Dead Horse to Stage Four. I'm not gonna rank Lament, but this is how I felt about the band's discog before this record: 4. Dead Horse X (which I honestly barely listen to) 3. Parting the Sea 2. ...Is Survived By 1. Stage Four
Listened through once and the early stand out is the title track. Had to repeat it twice while throwing my head around the room with the wife and kids asleep upstairs.
5. Dead Horse X (honestly the re-record has supplanted the OG for me in Touché Amoré canon) 4. Parting the Sea 3. Is Survived By 2. Stage Four 1. Lament Some days I wonder about the placing of my top two but Stage Four, for me, is blighted by circumstance - that album hits in a whole different way once you've actually had a family member diagnosed with cancer, never mind lose their battle with it. (My mum, last year - she beat it!) It's a truly impressive record but the one I reach for the least because I've been there and it hurts too much.
5. Dead Horse 4. Is Survived By 3. Parting The Sea 2. Stage Four 1. Lament ISB is a better record than PTS but PTS has so much nostalgia built in for me and they are the best songs live
Yeah my friend died of an overdose around the time it came out and my grandma died of cancer last year, it’s really difficult to listen to. I think it’s their best and it’s my favorite album of theirs but I don’t go back to it often.
I also had a friend die of an accidental overdose around the time this came out so I had a similar feeling for the first 3 years but now I listen to it quite often. I totally get it though.
I feel the same way. Lost my mother in law to cancer. It’s such an amazing record and hits the feels, sometimes just a little too hard though.
