I can see “Gracious Day” and “Two of Everything” having been remastered maybe. They were definitely already finished works, unlike the version of “Records of Your Tenderness” she released to Patreon, which is clearly a demo.

 

Didn’t realize she’d released that song as well, I think I stopped contributing to her Patrion before she released it. I can definitely see Gracious Day getting re-recorded since that one was pretty lo-fi.

Listened through once and it's everything I could have wanted from a new Torres album. Well, except maybe more songs haha

 

I interviewed her last summer! Reviewing this album for P4k - I really like it, even as I had issues with some of the production choices.

 

I’m glad it sounds less dense and intense than Three Futures (That album is perfect imo, but I couldn’t listen to another with the same delivery.) Sequencing isn’t as tight as her previous albums, but it makes for an interesting experience.

Some of Mackenzie’s strongest songwriting and many of her best, most candid lyrics are on this record, which overshadow any blemishes or missteps in those areas for me.

“Good Scare” is possibly my favourite opening track of any Torres album, and that’s saying something. Finding it tough to enjoy “Good Grief”, but the pairing of “A Few Blue Flowers” and “Gracious Day” afterward is brilliant. The ending on “Silver Tongue” feels abrupt in and not in a great way, but if done on purpose, then I’d say bold choice.

It’s evident the album is self produced, but that’s part of its charm. We’ll see how it ages, but I could see this becoming the Torres album I hold onto most one day.

 

In terms of writing I think it's her best, but production-wise I don't love it as much as her last two albums.
