Can’t believe how good this was, holy shit

$124 million opening. $151 million over the 4 day Memorial Day weekend

 

This immediately enters the legacyquel hall of fame alongside Blade Runner 2049 and Creed

 

plus fury road, amongst a couple others

 

Really grinding my gears that I can’t see this until Wednesday

 

I love how much of a sincere, whole-hearted old fashioned movie this was. They kept it just cheesy enough to achieve those "magic of cinema" moments.

No meta jokes or self references. Just believed in its characters and the story it could tell. Really great start to end, did not feel the runtime.

 

There isn’t anything more exciting that a summer blockbuster that screams “this is why we go to the movies” from first frame to last frame.

I nearly teared up at “A Don Simpson/Jerry Bruckheimer Production” at the start of this

 

Didn’t quite love it as much as everyone seems to but prettayyyy prettayyyyy prettay good!

 

Well let’s not get ahead of ourselves there.

 

This should easily cross the $1 billion threshold worldwide by the end of it's run, right?

 

That top comment is even better.

 

Need a gif/clip of the ending with everyone looking and nodding at one another other. I live and die for that shit.

 

I can imagine this will have a measurable effect on the number of people who enroll in pilot training programs/Air Force trainees

 

Two of my favorite bits of the movie were the audio of the flares going off from the jets - in the theater I could feel the loud "thumping" as they went off. And then when the 5th gen fighter did that artificial stall to get itself behind Maverick and co (looks like this is called a Cobra maneuver); looked super dope

What an absolute dork you have to be to see the movie then go enlist

 

As a fan of fighter jets and action movies this was one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. Saw it at a local theater so ima have to see it in imax.

 

Saw this twice this weekend. Amazing both times.

 

I now love the Lady Gaga song after seeing it in context in the film. Beautiful song

 

I want to go to an airshow now

 

Airshows always seem like a good idea until they happen during the hottest part of summer and you’re standing on hot asphalt wanting to do anything else.
