i stopped like every third paragraph and would hit something like “jennifer connolly is a total babe” and keep it movin
That’s the only comment like that. But sure. I’m learning that sharing thoughts on here is frowned upon. So, I’m out of this thread. Whatever, go see the movie.
This was shockingly good. Granted the Mission Impossible films have all been solid, but really have to give Tom Cruise credit for putting out a worthy sequel and not just a cash grab. Also, Jennifer Connelly is great in this, and if the Val Kilmer scenes don’t bring a tear to you, you’re probably not alive.
Just got out of it, wish I could see it in IMAX but I'll take what I can get at this point. Phenomenal movie from start to finish. Loved how many throwbacks to the first one it had and was happy to not have "you've got that loving feeling" played in the bar as I think that would've been a bit too much. Lots of fun jokes/quips, crowd reaction was great (and something I missed, as it's been since the live action Dumbo came out that I saw a movie in theaters).
This was fantastic. Me and about 20 others stood up and did the pledge of allegiance during the credits. One guy even did it in sign language. Was great.
But seriously, in my top 5 of the year easily. Not sure if it’s due to Tom Cruise’s star power overseas, but there was more excitement over this than any other major US film including the Marvel films. People in my showing loved this. I also can’t believe Cruise is almost 60. Dude still looks and acts like he is in his late 40s.
FUCK. ME. This movie is literally perfect. Like, from start to finish, it was everything I was hoping it would be. When that first music hit at the opening scene, chills. Got chills again later in the film. Saw this on the IMAX screen here in Oslo - pure thrill ride. What. A. Film.
lol yeah wasn't sure if he was serious with that. I saw this on a military base and that didn't even happen. But, of course, they play the national (and S Korean national anthem) prior to movies on base (which threw me off, since it's been since the first Avengers movie that I last saw a movie on base).
I wasn’t being serious about the pledge of allegiance. I was serious that was film is fantastic, though.
Thought it kinda funny/interesting they decided not to assign a country to the enemy - instead giving the enemy plane a name of "5th generation fighter", and not naming the country itself. The enemy plane shape/design though is very similar to the new stealth plane Russia has in fact developed, the Su-57, but not actually deployed yet (supposedly). They only made like 15 of them, and it's not all that stealthy. Watching the film I thought I heard they very briefly mention a "Russia client state" or something, and I was trying to pinpoint where on earth the underground uranium base could be located, and the only place I could imagine the US having a carrier off a coast and be close to a mountain range, is somewhere on Russia's east coast, where they do have mountains. But Russia obviously already has and develops uranium to make nukes, so Russia couldn't be the enemy actor in this case (that enemy that is in violation of some NATO rule or whatever). Same with China. So, in reality I can't think of any country/area that fits all the enemy parameters presented in the film. But for all intents and purposes, it's gotta be Russia Actual Russian Su-57
I was thinking about this too; was interesting to me because when I heard "5th generation fighter" that for some reason made me think the implication was supposed to be China. And I know that at the end of the day it's propaganda and an ad for a military contractor but having the Skunkworks logo highlighted on the SR-72 made me smile a little. I love how many scenes were just remakes of the original, a bunch of people in my theater started laughing when the sex scene happened with the same lighting
Great movie. All the callbacks were very “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” (Let’s go to one more shot of that Iceman and Maverick photograph). It was nice to see Jennifer Connelly be allowed to be charming again, but she had more of a sisterly chemistry with Cruise than romantic. Everything else - Great. Hamm’s hamming it up. Cruise is always reliable. The supporting cast was great, I especially liked young Bill Pullman’s jittery energy. Everyone in the cast looks like they’re chiseled from stone. The action sequences were so tactile and well executed that it really put the audience in the pilot’s seat, while never losing sense of the geography or the camera being too shaky. How is this in 4D or whatever it is where the seat moves? I feel like I’d be holding on for dear life.
Yeah, just saw this. What a great movie. For a sequel that's done over 30 years later, it keeps up with the original surprisingly well. People were clapping in the theater.
Rocked so hard. Teared up a bit at the Val scene. Shout out to Jon Hamm too for totally eating a completely thankless role
