My god the propaganda is strong with this thing. Fun final act, but couldn't be bothered with the nostalgia fest from the get go.

Just passed $700 million domestically to take the #5 spot of all time (in the US), beating Black Panther.

I wonder how it’s numbers would’ve been had it been released in a different 2020 timeline. We were only six weeks from release when the shut down happened, right?

Phenomenal movie, but would it have been THIS big?

Damn. Theaters are absolutely hurting if this is getting like a third re-release. Worth seeing again in the theater though!

I liked, but didn’t love this. Glen Powell underused! It’s basically The Force Awakens blueprint of nostalgia and repeating plot beats, the action is electric and undeniable though. But sometimes it can feel like a “Be All You Can Be” commercial intercut with the 1987 film Top Gun.

Maybe it's just me, but I really didn't feel the propaganda with this because one of the key points of the script was the fact that the higher-ups were more than willing to sacrifice their pilots to achieve their goals. That didn't feel like a ringing endorsement to me.

I would like to point out that it’s more about the editing, music and platitudes in the dialogue that give me this feel (re: “Be All You Can Be”). Not that I walked away expecting to bump into an enlistment table, though navy fighter jets doing cool shit is always going to be some kind of endorsement, but that specifically didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the film, probably the best action sequences since Fury Road.
