Ah that’s right. Well to be fair, any time I hear a Onerepublic song, I mentally replace it with a better song.
Have not see the first Top Gun, don’t really plan to, but I’ve got one of those diseased brains that wants to be included so I went to see this before Jurassic World takes over the Dolby showings. pretty good! So sincere. Really really great finale
Yeah that’s kinda the impression I got, I read the synopsis and a couple of articles for the missing context
Finally saw this last night. Absolutely worth the hype. Opening sequence was beautiful and immediately had me hooked. All the jet flying scenes were riveting. There's a good amount of cheese, but it mostly works for a movie like this.
I really want to see this for the practical effects of seeing planes flying and all but is this movie super pro-military/pro-soldier? I know this is probably a cringey question but I wonder if it's going to be worth it
Honestly, there were a couple cringy lines in the beginning, but that was more about pro-manpower vs. drones than pro-military in general. The majority of the movie is really not about the military aspect of it at all and is just a backdrop for the human conflict at the heart of the story.
The first Top Gun felt way more like military propaganda than this one. Lots more focus on character building, I feel, in Maverick.
Yeah, actually, upon further reflection, if you really think about it, some of the plot points in this movie actually feel anti-military. The whole fact that the main conflict is about trying to give the pilots enough training to not die and prevent them from just being sent on a suicide run is kind of... dark.
The film is arguing that we should still use pilots instead of drones. It is not only pro-war but it needs soldiers like maybe someone in the audience.
But at the same time, don’t drones just kinda make it easier to just hit anything vs maybe an actual solider having a conscience and at least trying to do the least harm? Probably wishful thinking
