I wish I could go to Electric Forest more than anything. I'm settling for Camp Bisco this year. Last summer I ventured down for Electric Adventure in Atlantic City on the beach. It was simultaneously the best/worst experience ever. And I'm kinda afraid to go back to atlantic city now.
You know the feeling when you're leaving the festival and everything seems to be coming down/crashing at the same time and reality hits you a little too hard? Combine that with walking down an entire boardwalk barefoot (after day 1, we decided that there was just no way to do shoes comfortably with all the sand) looking completely SHOT as we passed like families and kids trying to enjoy the boardwalk as a bunch of horrifying zombie looking people shambled off the beach. Then, once reaching the end of the boardwalk, it dawned on us that we were nowhere close to our hotel. So we tried to google maps the easiest walking route, but the only person who's phone was alive died shortly. Let me say this. Walking through some sketchy parts of Atlantic City, barefoot, no energy, and almost completely in the dark is terrifying. I've never been more legitimately afraid of being mugged or stabbed or something. Our own horrid sense of direction took us a way that we assumed would be fastest, but def was NOT safest. Also we returned to my car with it having a huge crack in the windshield. No idea how that happened. Chalked it up to leaving it in a sketchy parking lot.
Wow, I'm shocked a little bit. Of course in a crowded places you can easily meet weird persons. Your story reminds me walking at evening in San Diego downtown. Sea promenade with lights, tourists, restaurants and palms are very romantic, but few quarters higher streets are empty and full of hobos. It feels like not very safe place. Sorry about your wind shield, it costs about $ 300 to replace I guess.
