damn, a record that came out a week ago is your favorite of all time already? that land of talk record is so good
Haha, my list changes quite frequently. But yeah, that record gets better with every listen for me (and trust me, it's been played many times so far).
another interesting thing would be lists by songs plenty of times I feel an attachment to an album just because it has 3 or so songs that I think are great the album format is strange and limiting most times and as someone who consumes a whole lot of music, at this point something needs to be really special to get my attention and keep it for months at a time. but a whole album of that? statistics often don't allow for it
I'd rather show 50 albums by 50 different bands, I would have probably had all the BN albums, another Menzingers one, another Crime in Stereo, maybe two Thursday ones, etc etc.
debated between that and village green. ultimately i think the latter has higher peaks but lola is much more consistent
maybe it's overzealous but most bands can't write an album that's good or interesting all the way through. being a listener of post modern artists it becomes interesting to observe the dichotomy of composers releasing singular movements vs rock bands releasing 10 tracks every 2 years. Similarly, as you know, artists like Future, Drake, and Rihanna also have more interesting less standard models.
I mean numerically speaking I guess "most" bands can't write a perfect album, but there are more than 50 out there that qualify as "good" or "interesting". Plus, subjectivity and all
That's ok. That post was really just born out of realizing that I sometimes personally think fondly of an album just for having 3-4 or so tracks that I find great or influential and that that feels weird to realize. maybe because it's weird for me to reconcile that along side, by the same criteria, albums that are cool through and through but aren't fresh or transcendent. I cold surely list enough albums I enjoy through and through to fill up something like this but I would maintain that it can be limiting in the sort of way that I've (tried) to explain
