The thing is, I love the lyrics on For Emma. That was one of the main draws of his music for me early on. The lyrics are much less important on BI, BI and they sound like they will be still less important on this new record.

I totally get that, and feel the same way about For Emma. Those lyrics are hard hitting. But as BI evolved, I feel like he really started to use his voice as another instrument, and I love that. So in these days, his lyrics take a backseat for me, because I'm more interested in just how his voice sounds, and how it adds to the song. I'll agree that the lyrics are one of the best parts of FEFA.

Oh, he's absolutely using his voice as an instrument now, and that's fine. Like, I've heard "Beth/Rest" probably 150 times and I still have no idea what he's saying on half of it. Doesn't impair my enjoyment of his music, mostly because his voice is so unique and beautiful. But, I gotta say, I do miss the lyrical aspect of For Emma. Hearing something like "re:stacks" for the first time and having those lyrics just punch me in the chest was so special.

I had the realization last Friday when I saw them, as they were playing old songs, that this is my favorite band pretty much ever and I had a really really hard time singing along, haha. So I definitely feel where you're coming from as well.

Hahaha, I can only imagine. Yeah, I don't think he'd be an artist I would sing along to at a concert. One, it's just too hard, and two, I'd want to focus on his voice.

I don't think the lyrics to For Emma are that much better than BIBI. Most of his songs are kind of whatever lyrically for me but they usually have one line or so that gives the entire song meaning for me.
