I already hated Maynard for his dumb fuck comments about cops last year but this is way too much, will never listen to him again
I really hope he owns up to it. Those are some pretty specific, and detailed accounts of what happened. I’m probably never gonna listen to his music again now, but he better not sweep it under the rug.
call me cynical but I imagine he’s trying to find out who this person is so he can sue them. he really strikes me as that kind of person
Jesus. This one hurts. He sits far above everyone else on my list of musical idols and inspirations through the course of my life. His general groupie indulgence back in the day has been well known by the fanbase forever, but obviously this is far beyond the pale, if true. I only realized on my second reading of the thread this morning that it was posted 4 days ago?! This is one of the biggest rock bands of the past 30 years, so I'm not sure how it's stayed on the DL for that long. Assuming it gets more coverage soon and is legit, I'm sure more corroborating stories will come quickly and he'll be forced to confront it in some form.
Sadly, I don't think this is going to go down like the BN situation. Too many people will write this off in the hard rock/metal scene and they will go on like it never happened. That's a terrible story, and personally, I will never support any of this bands.
why anyone would be surprised about this from him is beyond me. he’s been a pretty shitty and annoying figure for the entire history of the band’s career. this is obviously far worse and more nefarious, but it hardly comes as a surprise given his character.
He is definitely up front about sleeping with girls while on tour in his biography, but this is obviously something else
So fucked up. That post about him and his staff having a system to select girls for each night, it’s like a fucking game of thrones brothel
Finally. I checked this morning and no real notable places had ran the story... I was worried it would completely blow over. Still feel like he probably will get away with not addressing it but at least there should be more pressure now...
Not sure on last night but they play Madrid tonight, which obviously appears to be going on as scheduled.
Seems like this is going to be stuck in limbo until/unless the creator of the Twitter account at least has a face-to-face conversation with a journalist (while retaining public anonymity) or something along those lines. A new, anonymous Twitter account just isn't going to be sufficient for reputable news outlets to publish such explosive accusations (even though, obviously, it's totally conceivable that this person is telling the truth but doesn't want to go any further for understandable reasons). I'd still expect more stories to come out soon if this was an MO for him, but the issue with expecting that to happen right now is that it's gone so far under the radar. Tough situation.
Yeah, as far as the legal and journalistic side, there’s obvious reasons for not running this if all they have is the info out there now. Anonymous sources are already dubious legally under libel law, and there’s many instances where a journalist may be forced to reveal their source in court... and that’s if the journalist KNOWS the identity of the anonymous source. From an ethical standpoint I absolutely believe this story, but there’s (understandably) a different standard for publications and under the law.
Unfortunately. Anonymity of sources is usually only protected for sure in a court case if there’s another source of the same information that can be provided. Especially in either a criminal or grand jury case, judges can potentially force a journalist to reveal their source or be held in contempt of court.
