wrap yourself in petals for armor.

if you think "flexing so hard to be woke" is what people are piling in here to do then you've proven my point entirely and nothing more needs to be said.

Really cool to see people in this thread continue to ignore female perspectives and a survivor perspective and continue to just double down on being shitty

I coach high school sports and do a program called "boys to men" where I encourage open dialogue about these issues.

    Here's the about statement:

The Mission of Boys to Men is to reduce interpersonal violence, specifically male violence against women and girls, and support the development of emotionally fluent, civically-engaged boys.

Boys to Men addresses the development of boys in the context of their relationships, socialization process, and cultural environments. Boys are bombarded by narrow, confusing, and often destructive messages about masculinity beginning at very early ages. We believe it is not the boys, but rather the culture in which they live and grow, that is in need of repair. While holding boys and men to a higher degree of individual accountability, we also put an appropriate level of focus on the environment—families, schools, community organizations, and peer culture—as the key agents of change in the lives of boys.

But, ya, I am a rape apologist, tell me more

ah Yes the classic, “ I have a wife and kids! I support this group!” Defense. Because yes, the good thing you do absolutely negates anything you ever do wrong

Okay now this is a flex.

And guess what? Bad people can do good things (not saying you're a bad person). You don't think Jesse Lacey or any other shitty member in the scene didn't donate to and support good causes? That doesn't make up for other shitty behavior. There's no such thing as a woke scale that you can climb.

When the only rebuttal you have is to either liken being called out to being called "alt-right" or accuse the other person of "wokeness" (oh no, call me anything but that, I beg you) it's because actually engaging with the topic at hand exposes all the fallacies and all that is left is to go on the defensive. Tool fans really just live up to the name, eh?

I'm concerned that somebody who runs a program like that could also not see how it's problematic to ignore the voices of survivors of assault and not see how enaging with music/supporting artists who are rapists/abusers is problematic.

    Sure thing!

I would say you need to read your own missions statement:

This website right here? It is a peer culture. And we are holding men to a higher degree of accountability by ensuring that those who wish to turn a blind eye to, or stifle discussion about, abuse are called to account for that.

Honestly. Did any of you even read this? And if you did, how can you just sit there fucking ignoring it? Like, why?

Of course it's a flex. Hey, at least I'm out in the world doing something to help this issue rather than chastising people on the internet who are going to listen to this album regardless.

Bad people go good things. Good people do bad things. This specific instance isn't a black and white issue the way some of the others have been. There's a lot of gray here, some people are choosing to look at it in black and white and that's fine. I'm not. Some others I have looked at very black and white because they were black and white to me. If this stuff is true, I hope anyone else who was victimized by Maynard feels comfortable coming forward and Maynard goes to jail and the band ends.

I don't get why someone can look at someone else who vies anonymous tweets that were never corroborated or never added to (many other #metoos had many other people jump aboard) after a year and say that that person is a rape apologist. Isn't helping anyone's case. There's no discourse here, just people who aren't even Tool fans coming in and telling everyone they're fucking assholes for forming an opinion.

chorus dot fm would make a terrible jury.

Well, you just quoted a post saying people that are discussing these allegations are "flexing to be woke" with a "+1 thank you", so there's that

If my empathy for survivors of assault is to such a fault as to be called "wokeness", then so fucking be it. Because if you can hear a story like Mary's and still think that fucking Tool is more important than validating her experience, the experience of the survivor of K**nan's abuse, and the experience of countless other women and survivors, then you have so much more to search through in your own personal life then being called out in this thread can do for you. Stop asking women and survivors to do the work for you. It starts at the very level we are discussing, it starts with calling this shit out and not supporting abusers.

It's always telling to me when someone considers "woke" or "sjw" an insult, says a lot about their character and who they are as people.

There is not a single artist in the world so good that it's worth turning a blind eye to the suffering of another human being. The lack of empathy -save the logical fallacies and cheeky remarks when discussing assault- is perhaps the most chilling part of all of this.

Like, for real. A woman is trying to have a fucking discussion with you on a serious topic, and you choose to turn it into a joke. What an embarrassment.
