  1. Just say you actively want to support shitty men and move along.

Also to be fair I have been in a bad mood all day because of work so if I said some things I didn't mean that's why. Of course this stuff is important. It always is. I will never say it's not important.

Dude at this point you’re not even separating the art from the artist. You’re actively defending the artist.

It's not even that. If it were, then we could have a discussion. They are more concerned with insulting me for...caring? It's the South Park defense

This is how the cycle of abuse continues. No one cares about what you listen to in private. However, when you’re on a public forum, and someone like @OhTheWater has been trying to discuss horrific allegations and work through this as a community and his efforts are shut down as “annoying” so you can sweep it under the rug and continue listening to an artist with rose-coloured glasses, guess what? You’re actively enabling and even supporting the perpetuation that allows taking advantage of fans, while ignoring or shutting down meaningful conversation enables r*pe culture. I get it, these are difficult conversations. But we have to be better. The conversation cannot remain, “but it was different back then!” - I call bullshit. Abuse has never, ever been okay and it’s taken decades of hard work from incredible activists to force the culture to change.

I didn’t want to post here. I won’t again. It’s making me feel ill posting from the perspective of a survivor knowing that the majority of people here are against us when their favourite artist is involved. He doesn’t matter, fam. THIS IS BIGGER THAN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH MUSIC AS A FAN. The survivors matter. Ending the cycle of abuse matters. There’s an abundance of amazing art made by non-abusive artists, go consume it!

It's somewhat saddening that in the year of our lord 2019 people can still believe that music discussion somehow supersedes individual conduct discussion online in relation to an artist. Take a step back and really acknowledge the choice you yourself are making by choosing to acknowledge only the comforting and familiar parts of the equation, but most certainly don't go after those who cannot.

This is exactly where I stand as well. I’m totally okay with the accusation continuing to be discussed, I think these issues are obviously extremely important and SHOULD be discussed.

That being said, I think it’s reasonable to also consider that this case IS murkier than say, the Jesse Lacey allegations, and they people’s “line in the sand” for no longer supporting an artist might be different depending on the circumstances of a particular case.

For myself personally (and I’m going to word this as carefully as I possibly can), I just am not comfortable equating an anonymous Twitter thread with a situation with multiple victims publicly coming forward under their real names with evidence of abuse. It’s consistently talked about how those who come forward publicly with sexual abuse/assault allegations have much to lose by doing so, and little motive to lie since they’ll receive so much backlash... and I agree with this! *However*... posting an allegation like this with complete anonymity removes a lot of that potential for negative backlash. Now obviously, I can totally understand why a victim would want to post an allegation anonymously for that exact reason. But the flip side of it is... we really have no idea who wrote those tweets.

I’m absolutely not saying the allegation should be dismissed, I support assault victims, and I am totally fine with this being discussed going forward. All of that being said, I feel like there should be a way to have a respectful discussion about this. With all the alt-right trolls and hateful people out there, I just think it is something to consider that it is *POSSIBLE* that the anonymous person who wrote those tweets may not be who they say they are, and there’s enough doubt there that there can be legitimate reasons to think this is a murky situation. Somehow I still feel like I’ll be called a “rape apologist” for saying this, but I think it’s worth at least trying to clarify where I stand on it.

I also want to make clear that I’m totally understanding of anyone who doesn’t want to support Maynard in any capacity anymore... that should be a personal choice to make. However I think that in a case like this where there are a lot of unanswered questions and doubt, we can all try to be more understanding of other viewpoints on the limited information we have available to us (regardless of what position you take).

you're entitled to hold whatever terrible views you want but nobody is obligated to agree with you and nobody has to bend over backwards to be nice to, or considerate towards, the viewpoints of rape apologists

I’ve never once said anyone is obligated to agree with me. But sure, go ahead and reduce everything I just wrote to me being a “rape apologist” if it makes you feel better about dismissing any points of view you disagree with. I don’t see how anything I just wrote is unreasonable, and I’ve consistently said I think this is an important conversation to have.

You responded to someone bringing up a valid question/inquiry about an issue being BURIED in this hype thread. Tool used to be one of my favorite bands. When the allegations came out I haven’t listened to them since. It wasn’t hard.

Saying openly you’re going to block someone who wasn’t even being antagonistic about the situation. Just posting their thoughts.

    Kindly fuck off.

For real though all of this has been more than enough for me to back away from this band, just doesn't feel good to listen to them anymore unfortunately.

I know I probably already know the answer but is any of this even brought up in the Joe Rogan interview? Anyone watch the whole thing?

wrap yourself in petals for armor.

I come into this thread and see some awesome people like @OhTheWater calling this shit out as usual and then see the people who are being apologists and the first thing I think is "yeah that makes sense, of course it's those users." If you're one of those people know we're all thinking that and wherever you post here that's what I think when I see your username, and maybe you don't feel any shame but you'll never go anywhere on here and not be considered that by the majority of us. And there's no way that toxic outlook on things doesn't pour over into your own life, so the choice is to either contend with what it means to have the viewpoints you do, and how people are going to perceive that, or ignore it and continue to be toxic.

Yeah I'm talking to you guys.

The fact that you're mocking somebody for caring about calling out sexual predators and for caring about the survivors of sexual assault is like next level disgusting lmao

I'm afraid the album is going to be pretty politically charged, which I'm not sure I want. But, I'm here for it regardless. I'm afraid my expectations are too high, though, honestly. I've been waiting for this since before I had a driver's license, I'm afraid there's no way it can live up to the hype.

Haha wow what a projection. My "toxic" outlook of letting people be their own person and not forcing views on others has led my "toxic" lifestyle of not being dramatic. My poor wife, kids, family and friends. If only they knew that a site I go on to talk about music and movies mostly at my cushy job, I was hated a group of users on a site. It would crush them.

I guess I'll just have to continue my "choice" of laughing at people flexing so hard to be woke to the point where if someone doesn't fall in line with their thinking, they must be a toxic rape apologist. Poor me.
