I'm only halfway through my first listen but this is pretty boring so far, tbh. I will, but I don't know how, I'm gonna power through another 45 minutes of this. In an age where people complain about long albums, these guys somehow get away with putting out an 86 minute long record and no one says a word because there's only 10 tracks
i think when a band that doesn’t release new music for a long time it’s always a little jarring to hear something new. If you are a fan of tool I think because of the attachment to those older songs which have been listened to for so long, it’s unrealistic to expect to have the same sort of attachment to new music after a single listen or two. That said, If you didn’t like Tool before hearing this album I doubt this album will make you a fan.
My friend, who has never heard Tool, and I dedicated our music podcast this week to the new album Fear Inoculum by The Untitled Music Podcast • A podcast on Anchor
There was an article that was so biased and anti allegations it was gross. The title of the article I think was “ Maynard was falsely accused”, and never shared any info on how they came to that conclusion.
That's a bummer. Again, I have some conflicted thoughts about the entire thing but I don't think I'll be checking this out. Mainly b/c of the allegations but also because of the meh reception from people I respect.
tbh i doubt i ever listen to them again, which is a bummer, bc i was a big ole dumb fan in HS and college
Allegations aside, you're not missing much by skipping out on this record. It's soooooo long and imo one dimensional. Every 10 minute long song sounds just like the last 10 minute long song, which is really just a 3 minute song drug out for 7 minutes too long.
not really looking for "diversity", just not 10 straight minutes of playing slight variations of the same riff
The highs are great, the lows are boring, probably their worst album but also isn't a bad Tool album. Last year's A Perfect Circle album is much better
Man, Eat the Elephant really didn't age well for me. Maynard's performance on that actually helped me set the bar for FI fairly low, so I'm pleasantly surprised. I can agree with this being Tool's worst, but I also don't see why anyone who idolizes 10KD wouldn't love this too. Tool were one of the greatest bands in rock history up thru Lateralus... and since then, they've just coasted creatively. Neither 10KD nor FI were ever going to win over people who don't like metal or prog, who already hate their cult fanbase, etc. And more importantly, they're both unapologetically derivative of past records. All their innovation and experimentation post-Lateralus happens in the realm of time signatures and other structural stuff. The textures and instrumentation on top of that are more or less a constant, with occasional exceptions. To most people's ears who aren't already fans, that's going to mean "everything sounds the same."

i really wish they would just kick maynard's fucking shithead ass out, but i realize it couldn't be tool without him. i cannot understate how important justin, adam and danny are as musicians to me. honestly i'd take an instrumental album from the three of them. fuck maynard forever.
