From Lena Dunham. Starring Megan Stalter (Hacks) and Will Sharpe (The White Lotus season 2, A Real Pain). 10 episode season releases July 10 on Netflix. A New Yorker whose relationship just ended abruptly moves to London to try to live out her British Rom-Com fantasy and finds the reality to be much different.
It took me until the Gracie Abrams song to realize this wasn’t gonna be wrapped in like 10 layers of irony or absurdism. Looks like a pretty down the middle rom com type of thing, which will be interesting to see Stalter star in The smash cut to spitting in each other’s mouths was quite the breakneck tone shift lol
my wife pulled the plug after episode 2. had a few laughs just ambiently listening in the background but overall didn’t seem great
Honestly pretty excited to watch this based on how much love I still have for Girls even if LD has said some questionable stuff in real life. Need to resub to Netflix though first lol
Finished this and I enjoyed it. The tone is a bit all over the place and it gets pretty outrageous at times but it’s consistently charming. Pretty comparable to Girls, probably not as good but still worthwhile. I get not being fan of certain questionable things Lena Dunham has said in the past, but it was honestly a pleasure experiencing her work again. If this is even semi-autobiographical, the character based on her definitely comes across as sympathetic. A bit surprised that this hasn’t really latched on, TBH.
The Jack Antonoff character (Zev) is also such a prick. I wonder if that’s a realistic portrayal of him.
