That disc 2 of Wildflowers is like the Holy Grail of lost Petty studio material, right?

I wonder what else they have in the Vault.........all the stuff so far has been top notch

 

Anyone who hasn't already done so, reallllly needs to listen to the full discography. What an incredible songwriter, who is seemingly lost in the conversation compared to the other greats.

I hope people really dig into Hard Promises for it's anniversary, too. I think I'll always hold it as his best.

 

I think I gotta go Southern Accents for my favorite of his at the moment, but Hard Promises is a very close second

 

If all of Southern Accents was as good as its best songs, I'd be right there with you. That one is an "almost" that I like a lot.

 

I don't think there's a bad Petty record out there. I lovvvvve the Iovine trilogy, Damn The Torpedoes is def my fave but it was also the one i got when i was 15. These days I tend to reach for Long After Dark more often than Hard Promises, so many great tunes between 'em tho:

Have Southern Accents appreciators watched this slice o' life?

Some mondo Petty tunes on that record, but I agree it's not quite the record it coulda been.

 

Into the Great Wide Open is the top Petty album for me.

 

It’s up there on my list. Self titled, damn the torpedoes, or wildflowers for me.

 

Long After Dark has BY FAR the most underrated gems. That whole thing smokes.

 

Y'all got me back on Southern Accents for the first time in forever.

 

Any of y'all Petty fans ever get into the other Shelter Records artists like Dwight Twilley, Phil Seymour, Phoebe Snow etc?

The 100 Best Tom Petty Songs, Ranked

Probably my favorite piece of music writing this year. Steven Hyden is tremendous at examining classic rock artists. I consider myself a Petty devotee and found myself coming across versions of songs I did not know exist.

 

This is absurdly on-point and something I've tried to articulate in conversations much less successfully numerous times:

I'd assume there isn't anyone in this Tom Petty thread that doesn't love Tom Petty

 

Imagine penalizing Tom fucking Petty for not being Randy Newman or Elvis Costello lol

 

I think it's more about critics holding him as a writer/lyricist in a certain regard, rather than people not liking him.

 

Loving the new second half to this album. I miss Tom Petty.

 

Really cool to listen to this before jumping into the reissue.

 

Yeah the additional 10 tracks are great -- I wish there was a way I could buy just that as an LP.

 

Did anyone's Wildflowers LP ship yet?
