Trying equate discussion on Blink and what artists they’ve work with in the entertainment industry to movements on social injustice seems like an odd stretch to me.
I’ve loved Alkaline Trio ever since From Here To Infirmary first came out during my Freshman year of High School so yes - I love Skiba - but man… I hated most of the Blink Skiba-era. It’s just not Blink in my eyes. Blink is Mark, Tom, and Travis. If one of them is missing - it feels wrong.
I get that Blink is/was Mark,Tom and Travis. It’s always cool when bands can stay together for the fans. I do think that Nine is pretty awesome though (but it’s very different feeling from the rest of the Blink discography). I wonder if those fans who didn’t like that album would have loved it if it just had a different project name.
Tom needs too much validation from fans. Should not have posted this. Could have said “personally spoke to Matt, I love that man.” Simple.
Being able to share all of this with my 15 yr old son is so damn special…we both love Blink equally, and he is so excited to hear new music with Tom. So friggin stoked!
With that said, I may be in the minority of those that objectively dislike the last 2 albums…yes there are some good songs, but going from a mature records like self titled and Neighborhoods to the more teenage lyrical try hard stuff on California and Nine was a transition that didn’t fit their discography imo. I’ve never been all that into Angels and Airwaves, didn’t love the sound of Blink without Tom, couldn’t be more excited for them to bang out another album together, my expectations are sky high!
The biggest way Tom can put his mouth where his keyboard (and money) is would be by singing at least one of the Matt-era songs. BTD is the easy choice and one fans would probably like hearing. I'll join the calls for "On Some Emo Shit" to be added to the setlist because I think it's awesome and I never got to hear it live.
I know Mark said specifically on discord that they would celebrate the entire blink catalog (and along with Tom thanking Matt) pretty clearly means they won't ignore it.
Tom: I sent this to Matt personally Numerous people: Why didn’t he send this to Matt personally?! (it’s literally the first line of the post)
If they play Matt era songs, I can't wait to hear how wrong all of those "What if Tom played "Bored To Death"?" YouTube videos are.
Cringey that he posted the message. Just post a photo of Matt and just say a couple things about how much he rules.
Maybe not top 3 but I’m still with you. California rules. Last train home is one of my fav blink songs (and maybe the most skiba-ish song)
I dunno. They all seem like homies. Skiba got to have some fun, gets that blink money, and still has his own all time classic band. I bet he’s stoked he got to be part of the ride and had a hunch Tom would be back eventually.
Just open with Pathetic like old times and we’ll collectively finish coming. Encore with Emo so the cleaning crew just gives up with all the sticky. *this post is just so yuck
Man they really can't please some of you whatever they do isn't? When Tom's return was announced, tons of fans were complaining that Matt didn't get acknowledged and that he deserved a personal message/thank you/apology or whatever. Now that we got one, and from Tom at that (to my surprise!), now the narrative is "he should've kept that to himself". Make up your mind!
I really appreciated Tom's message. Hopefully everyone is on good terms and this really does end up being their best record. I haven't been this excited about Blink 182 since 2009
Matt saying he was out of the loop in the recent past was most likely a way of keeping it a surprise, highly doubt he wouldn't be informed to keep his schedule to himself, and if so he would definitely be reimbursed financially, not much to look into here.
there were so many co writers on that album, john feldmann, patrick from FOB, martin from BLG and more. he didn't add that much, plus that album was so over produced and they just reverted back to shit we had heard from them before but more lame? that and nine are trash albums in my opinion and im glad skiballz is gone, he was a terrible placeholder for tom.
Or he just didn’t know. He didn’t really have a controlling interest in the band. I’m sure the situation was a little fluid too with all things considered. Maybe he was notified and whatever since then as well. I would have been cool if they released an EP of the finished songs they had with Matt prior to the change out since it was done anyway. But seeing how things stand, looking forward to new music from both bands (I think the Trio was working on new material too).
