That’s ok. People are allowed to have different opinions, and you don’t have to agree. I’ve never even noticed a post you’ve made before, but there is a block feature. It way easier than a complaint reply.
No. It’s an interpretation. And good on him for messaging Matt. I don’t blame Tom for trying to avoid blow back (although really it would only be minimal from those who wanted them to become a four piece band). Like I said, decisions made. Now let’s get us lots of new Trio and Blink. I don’t expect to see any bad blood here. Publicly, there’s nothing that says there can’t be a Blink headline and Trio opener tour together in the future.
For the US run there is only one opener right? Dare I hope that means a longer than usual setlist since they typically tour with 2-3 support acts (and bigger ones that get longer slots.
They should for the next release or an EP 100%. Nice message by Tom or fake Tom since real Tom was abducted by punk rock aliens for study, cloned, and replaced.
Sometimes I have unpopular opinions, but the beauty of discussion is that all have different experiences we bring to the conversation. Sometimes unpopular opinions can be annoying. Sometimes they are root for change. We should probably keep this on topic though and continue to discuss Blink with it being a news thread. Sorry to disappoint you Danny.
It does seem odd that he’s write an open letter publicly to him rather than just contact him directly. Does make you think it wasn’t handled well! But I’m sure Matt’s fine and he knew the deal.
In the end weather you're Team Tom or Team Matt they've both done great things in Blink and their other bands. Plus Mark kicked cancers butt and the band lives on all these years! I hope there's no animosity. I also will echo the sentiment that California is definitely one of their best albums!
He says on his Insta post he sent this personally to Matt but he wanted to share it as well to honor him
loved matt skiba’s stint in blink and honestly, loved the california album. i was indifferent with nine but he held his own and gave the band life again. don’t really care for tom’s ego or his obsession with aliens and his tumultuous story with blink. truly hope he’s genuine but i’m cautiously optimistic about this return. truly hope we get a great blink album because honestly, we’re due for one.
I would love to see either version of the band live but I'm not paying 400 for GA, that's the true crime lol On Some Emo Shit is one of my favorite blink songs. I'd love to hear some of the Matt era stuff (specifically 9) live but at this point I don't I'll ever see them live. Just really looking forward to new music
All good. I would have really loved to hear one Mark/Tom/Matt single where they split vocals in a non jarring manner. Maybe Skiba/Dan can feature Mark or Tom on a Trio song someday.
Hmmm I always thought the consensus on this site was that Skiba hungout with Nazis and needs to be kicked out. Anyway, stepping in to this band was the best career move Matt could have ever made and I’m sure he knew it wouldn’t last forever. The music industry is tough! Sometimes you are in the band and sometimes you are not.
I'm just trying to figure out why Tom apparently doesn't have Skiba's number, lol. Something about this feels fabricated but maybe I'm off on that.
He says in the post itself that he sent this to him personally first. He's just sharing it with the public as well.
Every member of Blink has been skewered by fans for associating with someone. First one that comes to mind is XXXtentacion that Travis and Mark had worked with. I’m sure there are more for all the guys. Maybe the consensus needs to be that no one is perfect and hopefully all these guys have all learned from past decisions. I’m sure there are also a lot of great people and organizations these guys have worked with too that don’t get as much attention.
Regardless of what happened behind the scenes I still occasionally am spontaneously reminded of how incredible it is that someone from alkaline trio fronted blink. If blink are still talked about in 20 years then all the grandfather emos and punks are gonna be telling their kids about how a (relatively) small goth punk band kept blink alive. Like the way we talk about the second singers of classic heavy metal bands.
I get the sense there was mutual respect, but as for having someone’s personal contact you’ve never worked with, he’d probably have to ask one of other guys or management for that. Online isn’t unrealistic. To your point, I do find it a little odd to need to share this with the public as I said, for optics, but the message itself feels heartfelt. The band or Mark and Travis could have released a statement (or if they did I missed it).
Honestly, I've never been a Tom fan, and loved blink with Matt, so I'm not really interested in their new music without him, but this was a sweet gesture from Tom. I do hope Mark and Travis communicated with Matt about the situation, since he was the guy who kept the band alive for 7 years, and didn't just ghost him and let him find out he was out of the band through the press. That would be a really shitty thing to do. I was hoping Matt would still be in the band with Tom coming back, but whatever, I guess. I don't see how they couldn't make it work as a four-piece.
Eventually it's going to come out that all Matt actually received is an email from Tom's manager stating: Tom. Is. In.
