I'm totally projecting on my two year old, but ill be ready the day he asks me to help him cover Title Fight.
Happy 10 years to Hyperview. Also maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I tried to listen to it on Qobuz and it didn't work right, seems like there's some licensing issues happening. So I went over to Spotify (it's a long story why I pay for two streaming services) and was listening to it, but noticed there's a new "version" of Hyperview. Tracklisting is the same, the only difference is the release date says "February 3, 2025" and the label is Purple Circle Records, which I believe is their record label. Maybe they just got the rights to their album fron Anti- or maybe they are trying to get it pressed on vinyl, but regardless, SOMETHING is happening there.
I think it's just that they got the rights back after ten years. Pretty sure they made it on their own then licensed it to Anti.
That makes a lot of sense that the original licensing could've been a 10-year deal. I know everyone gets pennies for streaming, but hopefully the old one gets removed and they can at least get all the revenue from it, instead of splitting it with a label.
Still never got into Hyperview aside from a few songs but I respect that they made it. Maybe I should try to revisit it again but just doesn’t hold a torch to their other stuff in my opinion
Wow, neither did I until now. I wonder if we'll see a repress soon if they now own their masters. I would buy this one again considering the pressing sounds a little muddy to my ears.
It came at a perfect time for me. I was just getting into shoegaze and Hyperview and Peripheral Vision were my gateway into that world. Inspired me to start a band and play electric guitar for the first time in front of people.
I think Hyperview is my favorite album of theirs now. I still love Floral Green too, but Hyperview is more solid front to back for me.
Also, just saw this band on Friday for their record release show and they've got some TF vibes to me.
It's not like essential shoegaze listening or anything, but it's a very good record. Underrated, even. Floral Green is still GOATed, though.
I didn’t really connect with Hyperview at the time, but I went back to it now that my tastes have changed, and really enjoyed it. Not above Floral Green or Shed for me, but way better than I gave it credit for at the time.
My ranking changes all the time. Right now I'd say Shed is my top cause I've been listening to it a lot while running.
Love the album. It may have started the issue of people incorrectly labeling things as shoegaze but w/e
Same here - when it came out I was playing it a lot when staying up late doing dissertation stuff, but never really enjoyed it at all, kept trying but never clicked. A couple years ago I revisited and it made much more sense. Maybe its because now I'm not listening to it while trying to cram in another 10 pages of absolute word soup.
Random, but it's always kind of satisfying when you don't totally latch onto an album at first but keep playing it anyways, and then randomly revisit it and it suddenly clicks.
Never really gave this band a fair shot. And didn't realise just how popular they are. First question - Safe In Your Skin is by far their most streamed song. Is there a reason I'm missing? It seems almost like an interlude or at the very least a reprieve...
