I’m the same way with eggs and chicken stock/broth in a carton. Struggles of living alone and cooking for 1. Same goes with any perishables like greens or produce I need to buy for meals. I hate being wasteful with food
There have been times where I buy bananas that are super green and they stay super green for 3-4 weeks afterwards and I still can’t use them. It’s absurd. Usually with bananas they like super age in my apartment and are mush in 12 hours but sometimes I get some weird genetic freaks that stay bright green for weeks on end. I will literally buy other bananas I can eat and will have them go bad and yet the green machines just sit there as if they are plastic. If I think about it too much I freak myself out that there’s something in/on those bad boys that’s probably not healthy to eat since they don’t age but whatever lol
That’s why someone should start a chain of grocery stores that have everything in 1/4 the size. Like a 1/4 of a load of bread, 4 eggs etc.
I always have to throw away milk and tomato sauce before it goes bad and it makes me feel guilty every time heh. A jar of tomato sauce is a lot for one person! Prego, full of preservatives, only lasts two weeks, and a good jar of sauce like Rao's lasts much less than that
a jar of tomato sauce will last in the fridge for weeks. as long as mold hasn't started growing on it it's fine
Eggs we either go through a carton in a week or it sits for 2 months, there’s no in between. worst for me are when I need like 1 cup of milk for cooking/baking, and jarred salsa when I want it for tacos and am too lazy to make some. I feel like that shit probably lasts forever but I never chance it ive gotten good with freezing tomato sauce because the good brands to use for pizza only come in the giant cans and it’s impossible to use more than a third of it in a week.
Google says 5 to 7 days. Hard to identify mold in tomato sauce early unless it's been sitting there a long time IMO
LOL I make Mexican a lot because you only really need to make a salsa/pico and then you can prepare meats/shells in different ways (nachos, fajitas, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, salads). Every time I end up making a fucking HUGE bowl and I have to eat Mexican for 1 meal per day for like a week I can't complain though. Mexican food rules. It's just impossible for me to tell how much I'm about to make for some reason. Here's the smallest one i've managed to make:
yuuuuup. Salsa looks good!!!! I will say that when I have the time to make salsa, cooked salsa freezes exceptionally well - def solves the problem a bit.
I might have to try that. No idea why i haven't yet. I can usually get it to stay fresh for 5-7 days as long as you saran wrap the top and put in the fridge.
The problem I find with homemade salsa is that it gets watery before it goes bad (especially if it's a more fresh pico style salsa). The salt pulls all the juice out of the tomatoes so in a day or so, the liquid to 'salsa' ratio is off, and I'm afriad to drain it and lose all the flavor. If it's a blender salsa, it's never a problem with the texture changing, but I always find that when I blend it, it changes the color and it gets sort of pink sometimes which doesn't look right. My tomato sauces always turn orange too by the time I'm done. Despite making versions of both that I think are outstanding taste wise and better than most stuff I've bought, they never look right compared to the jarred stuff.
i have to go into the office twice this week which means ironing two shirts to avoid this and there’s almost nothing else I look forward to less this week than doing that lol
I also have heard/read this. Some cases it’s about 3 days, but I could be thinking about something else. If someone wants to chance it and still use it weeks after opening if it moldy, that’s on them. Just don’t feed it to me lol.
When you’re texting quickly and go for a double L, but hit backspace twice on accident instead. So a word like “wallet” just becomes “et.”
I should really do better at reading my messages before I send them that kind of shit happens far too often
when the "save" and "cancel" buttons are too close together and you fill out a template and accidentally hit "cancel" and have to start all over. happens at my job alllllllllll the time haha.
When I'm waiting for through traffic to pass me so I can turn and it's almost my turn to go finally, but then another car comes from some side street or driveway out of nowhere and ruins my chance
