Charmer probably edges Spin out for me just due to the sheer number of songs I consider TJ classics from that record. Spin is still very solid, though, and I agree that Ben’s vocals are the best they’ve ever been. I kind of doubt it will happen, but a record with close to a 50/50 split on vocals, the tightness of Spin, and the dynamics of Charmer would probably be my favorite thing they’ve done.
Agreed, but I loved early TJ like the it had a magic to it. Adam worked for me because they complimented each other.
Two Worlds is good, but it’s one of those albums where every time I listen to it, it feels like a first listen again. Nothing from it ever sticks with me. But then I listen to it and remember how good it is. It also definitely got outshined by Run For Cover re-releasing self titled the same year.
I definitely agree with this take but I also don’t necessarily think it’s a criticism from me. The album as a whole progresses at a breakneck pace and never settles until the very end. Almost feels like one long fantastic song.
