I'm happy to say I'm enjoying this more with every listening. It's wild how something can seem so boring at first and then later you just get it.
yeah pretty cool how ben and brianna kind of reinvented this band post charmer and put out some of their best albums. this is still the main thing im reaching for 2 weeks later
Exactly what i asked for... To each their own, but im always surprised when bands go for the minimalist approach. I dont expect every show to be a massive arena style spectacle, but i like a little something to add to the live experience, besides just the live music. I never said i didnt enjoy it though. Was a solid performance, especially all the newer songs that are fresh in my mind.
I think this is one of the more cohesive albums I’ve heard in a minute. Perfect sequencing imo and it also just feels complete. One of those records I have to listen to all the way through as soon as I hit play.
I cannot get over how good this album is the more I listen to it. Even had to buy a ticket to see them solo in Bmore next week (who knows if my old ass will actually make it, lol, but hopefully.) I can’t get “I am the blood in the gums of a sensitive mouth” out of my head and it’s not even in my top 2 of the album? (I was kind of bummed w the last one, though I really liked some of the tracks, but this even has me appreciating that more?) Think this may top Spin, even though nothing will ever beat “Window” for me, which is wild to say.
I've never seen them live but this sound like fair criticism to me. It sucks that other users start making silly comments just because they don't agree.
alright so i revisited self titled the other day and i don't understand why it is held in such high regard? Was it you had to have been there when it was released to appreciate it? I found tigers jaw in 2015 as a opener on tour. So my first albums are Charmer & Spin which i love and think are way better than their self titled debut, but when this new album came out, a lot of people were saying it is their best record since s/t, please help me understand. I don't think the self titled is bad, but i don't think its as good as everyone says it is.
I think it was a time and place type thing. I think it’s easily their worst record, and i like all their new records more than the last.
and also its basically a new lineup, i just thought am i missing something, why don't i like this album that much ahhaha
thats funny i heard a few self titled songs at work and was like "this is still pretty timeless writing for this sound" haha, dont really agree at all. i love the new stuff too though, i think everything theyve done is great in its own way
It's hard for me to not look at it through nostalgia tinted glasses. Just a special time for the scene as a whole, and that record is a historical footnote for the overall post-poppunk scene that rose from No Sleep/RFC/Will Yip.
Up until last year I never really listened to Tigers Jaw much, I think I checked out "I won't care.." when it came out and found it ok, but that was it up until then. Then I was supposed to see them the first time live at a festival last October so I wanted to dig deeper before. So I went to Spotify and checked out their top songs, which were mostly off of the S/T. I instanly fell in love with that album. Like really fall in love. It's exactly my type of music and I am still bummed it took me so long to discover them. I have listened to their whole catalog since, and while I like most of the stuff, nothing comes close to the S/T and the Spirit Desire EP for me.
I find Brianna's mic to be turned down too low live, both when I saw them last year and also in that video of the live show posted on the last page. needs to be louder to hear her vocals!
They were great. And the crowd was definitely the wildest during the S/T songs (but generally a really good vibe all around). This was in the Netherlands btw.
pretty sold on the idea that this is my favorite tigers jaw now. the song transitions help a lot i think, makes this a really cohesive full listen
Not even a debate for me, I was kinda shocked to see nearly unanimous praise in here so I checked it out despite mostly being in a period of hip hop listening, this dethroned Charmer for me which is a pretty nostalgic album for me. Not only that but I’ve always been much more into Balance/Title Fight/Turnover in regards to bands in that vibe but this is hitting me on a level on par with some of those bands best stuff. Super well sequenced, really like the balance of the vocals here (wouldn’t mind a song or two more structured like Prinary Colors vocally but eh), catchy, feel like lyrically this a bit stronger than they have been but to be fair I haven’t listened since Spin
i would say its on par with their last album 'I Won't Care How You Remember Me' but a tad bit better, this three album run since spin had just been the best stuff imo.
